The QAnon Community Is in Crisis — But On Telegram, It’s Also Growing

· January 22, 2021 ·

Now that the Biden administration is officially underway, the QAnon community is in crisis. Adherents to the conspiracy theory, which postulates the existence of a cabal of media and left-wing political figures engaged in a child trafficking ring, believed that Inauguration Day would serve as the Great Awakening, and that President Trump would swoop in and arrest and execute all of his enemies. Yet after Inauguration Day came and went without incident, many were left confused, disappointed, and disillusioned with the promises of Q . As a result of the failed promise of an Inauguration Day reckoning, some extremism experts predicted that the community would be in turmoil, or that believers would undergo a crisis of faith and possibly turn away from the movement. On the encrypted messaging app Telegram, however, which is currently serving as a bastion of far-right extremism, the QAnon community is not just thriving, but growing, according to data from the Center for Hate and … [Read more...] about The QAnon Community Is in Crisis — But On Telegram, It’s Also Growing

Lady Gaga’s Dogs Returned Safely, Dog Walker to Make Full Recovery, Shooters Still at Large

· February 27, 2021 ·

Lady Gaga's dog saga comes to a happy ending with the safe return of the singer's stolen French Bulldogs. On Wednesday night, two of Gaga's three dogs were taken by thieves who callously shot the dog walker . Fortunately, Gaga's assistant survived and is expected to make a full recovery. Extremely distraught over the missing pets, Gaga had also offered a $500,000 reward for the dogs' safe return with "no questions asked." Friday evening at around 6 p.m., the stolen dogs were returned at the LAPD's Olympic Community Police Station. Physically unharmed (but probably traumatized), the dogs have since been returned to Lady Gaga's representatives. The singer reportedly cried "tears of joy" when she heard that the dogs were back home. Meanwhile, Gaga's assistant is said to be in serious but stable condition. Reportedly, the dogs were returned by a woman who "appears to be a good samaritan" and claims to have simply found the dogs and brought them in. It's not yet clear if and when the … [Read more...] about Lady Gaga’s Dogs Returned Safely, Dog Walker to Make Full Recovery, Shooters Still at Large

Ta-Nehisi Coates to Pen New ‘Superman’ Film for DC Extended Universe

· February 27, 2021 ·

Author Ta-Nehisi Coates has been enlisted to write a new Superman film for DC Films and Warner Bros., with J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot also on board to produce. While the project is early in its development, Variety reports that Coates’ Superman movie — like the upcoming The Batman — would be more of a reboot of the Man of Steel franchise than a continuation of the current Superman storyline. “To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” Coates said in a statement. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.” Abrams added in a statement, “There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity.” The National Book Award winner for Between the World and Me , Coates is … [Read more...] about Ta-Nehisi Coates to Pen New ‘Superman’ Film for DC Extended Universe

Hear Our Podcast on the Greatness of Nina Simone

· February 27, 2021 ·

The late Nina Simone ’s younger brother, Sam Waymon, who played in her band for years, joined our Rolling Stone Music Now podcast for a uniquely intimate look at his legendary sister’s life and music. In a discussion with host Brian Hiatt and David Browne (who wrote about Simone’s enduring influence ), Waymon discussed Simone’s civil rights activism, her famous performance three days after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., the development of her genre-blurring style, her difficult later years, and much more. “Nina didn’t trust many people,”  he said, discussing what it was like to back her in concert. “You don’t mess with her music. You either could play it or you couldn’t. She had high standards, yes. But if you want to call yourself a musician, then you should appreciate those standards.” Related Stories Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis: How Janet Jackson Made Her Greatest Hits Brittany Howard on Nina Simone: 'She Was Herself, No Matter How Complicated' … [Read more...] about Hear Our Podcast on the Greatness of Nina Simone
