EXCLUSIVE: Nick and Jon Hamm’s Free Turn Entertainment has hired Robbie Ashcroft as Managing Partner. Ashcroft will join London and Los Angeles-based Free Turn’s management team. He’s joining from The Story Lab and will work on its audio slate and new TV and film slate partnerships among other tasks. Ashcroft was most recently International Development Partner at The Story Lab, where he established a new development and production fund for “original audio projects with multiplatform potential” in partnership with Global Media and Entertainment. This led to the greenlight of podcasts such as John Sweeney’s Hunting Ghislaine . While at The Story Lab, which is the content arm of Japanese ad giant Dentsu, Ashcroft also managed a strategic partnership between the parent company and Yahoo to created mixed reality TV formats from an XR smartstage in Holborn, London. Two very different stop-motion animated films lead the way as nominations for the 50th anniversary Annie Awards were revealed today. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio from Netflix and A24’s Marcel the Shell with Shoes On drew up nine and eight noms, respectively, with Disney/Pixar’s Turning Red next with seven. GLAAD Announces Nominees For The 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards
GLAAD , the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced the nominees for the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards . Current RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Salina EsTitties and Sasha Colby announced nominees in select GLAAD Media Awards categories in a ‘ GLAAD Drag Story Time’ video that just debuted on GLAAD’s YouTube. In the video, Sasha Colby commented on recent attacks on drag performers across the country: “Performers like us are being threatened with anti-LGBTQ bills, nasty protests, and even violence. You know what’s scary? People with guns, not queens with books!” In 2022, GLAAD found over 140 incidents of anti-LGBTQ protests and threats targeting drag events, including events run by the organization Drag Story Hour. Before its premiere in the midnight section tonight, the Reed Hastings-Ted Sarandos-run streamer has scooped up a majority of global rights on the Australian horror movie, Run Rabbit Run , starring 2x Emmy nominated Succession actress Sarah Snook. XYZ Films , which co-funded the film, brokered the deal with Netflix on behalf of the filmmakers. A release for the Carver Films production is planned for this year. ‘South Park’ Gets Season 26 Premiere Date On Comedy Central
Comedy Central has set Wednesday, February 8, for the Season 26 premiere of South Park . Watch a teaser above. Co-created by Trey Park and Matt Stone, the Emmy- and Peabody-winning animated series also will roll out its new season on Comedy Central internationally throughout 2023. New episodes will be available to stream in HD on SouthPark.cc.com, CC.com and the Comedy Central App post-premiere. Last summer, Comedy Central celebrated the silver anniversary of cable’s longest-running scripted series with South Park: The 25th Anniversary Concert . EXCLUSIVE : A pair of YA drama series are coming to an end at Peacock . The NBCU streamer has cancelled One Of Us Is Lying and Vampire Academy . One Of Us Is Lying ran for two seasons, while Vampire Academy, which comes from Julie Plec, has ended after one. Deadline understands that execs at Peacock were happy with both shows creatively but they just didn’t find the requisite audience to justify further seasons. One Of Us Is Lying , which is based on Karen M. McManus’ novel, launched in October 2021 and was the first Peacock pilot to go to series. It was renewed for a second season earlier this year that aired in October 2022. Vampire Academy was handed a straight-to-series order in May 2021 and premiered in September 2022.
