EXCLUSIVE : Greenwich Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to well-received Holocaust documentary Love It Was Not , which will play at Hot Docs this month. Israeli filmmaker Maya Sarfaty’s film charts the remarkable and harrowing true love story between a prisoner and a Nazi. Beautiful and full of life, Helena Citron is taken to Auschwitz as a teenager (one of the first 1000 transported to the concentration camp), and soon finds unlikely solace under the protection of Franz Wunsch, a barely older SS officer who falls in love with her and her magnetic singing voice. Risking execution if caught, they went on with their forbidden romantic relationship for two and a half years until the war ended and the camp was liberated. Danny Elfman Previews First Solo Album in 37 Years With New Song ‘True’
Acclaimed composer Danny Elfman has released a new song, “True,” which will appear on his first solo album in 37 years, Big Mess , out June 11th via Anti-/Epitaph. “True” is a menacing track that finds Elfman toying with grinding synths, booming industrial drums and blown-out guitar, while sharp strings give the song an even more sinister edge. “I got no destination,” Elfman sings on the track, “I just got termination/We talk about our harmony/We think about our termination.” “True” arrives with an equally eerie music video directed by multimedia artist Sarah Sitkin. “The video is an exploration of fractured identity, muffled through the lens of memory,” Sitkin said in a statement. “Danny is a central figure within the video, yet only in his reproduced likeness via prosthetics, masks, and 3D printed body parts. I wanted to make a video that was gritty, unpolished and uncomfortable.” Related Stories Danny Elfman Teams Up With Death Grips' Zach Hill for 'Kick Me' … [Read more...] about Danny Elfman Previews First Solo Album in 37 Years With New Song ‘True’
Fancy Hagood Was Almost an L.A. Pop Star. He Finds His True Self on a New Nashville Album
You can be excused if you don’t know the name Fancy Hagood . In 2015, when the singer-songwriter released his debut single “Goodbye,” he did so under a mysterious and clumsy moniker — Who Is Fancy. Hagood didn’t even appear in the music video for the pop song; instead, his voice was seen coming from a Bieber-lookalike actor. It was meant to sell an air of mystery, but the marketing strategy left Hagood feeling stuck in the shadows and questioning his sense of identity. Even a follow-up with Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande, “Boys Like You,” didn’t bolster Hagood’s confidence. “I would be in a store somewhere and ‘Goodbye’ is playing over the intercom, and I wasn’t able to live in that moment,” says Hagood, who was living in Los Angeles at the time. “I was hidden again. I realized it was happening at the cost of my happiness. It was happening at the cost of my creativity. It was happening at the cost of me being able to be myself.” Related Stories T.J.
