REXCLUSIVE : Netflix ’s big spending at the virtual EFM is continuing with a mighty worldwide pre-buy of around $55M for Christian Bale Gothic horror-thriller The Pale Blue Eye , which will reunite the actor with director Scott Cooper. By our calculations, the deal marks a record for a worldwide deal at the European Film Market. The streamer beat out multiple competitors for the project. The movie, which Cooper has wanted to make for more than a decade, revolves around the attempt to solve a series of murders that took place in 1830 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Oscar-winner Bale will play a veteran detective who investigates the murders, helped by a detail-oriented young cadet who will later become a world famous author, Edgar Allan Poe . The band Kings of Leon were the big buzz in this week’s music business news, announcing that they would offer their latest album, When You See Yourself , on non-fungible tokens, widely known as NFTs. The NFT is being offered starting yesterday in a package that will give you a vinyl and digital download for $50. It was released Friday on YellowHeart, an NFT platform. The collectible catch: after two weeks. the deal is not available, and no more will be made. Crypto collectibles are the rage of the moment, with NFTs offered in ownership on a blockchain, a digital ledger that is used to create cryptocurrencies and is immutable. Winston Groom Dies: Author Of ‘Forrest Gump’ Novel Was 77
Winston Groom , the author whose novel Forrest Gump inspired the Oscar-winning film of the same name, has died at 77. No details on the cause of death were confirmed by the mayor’s office in Fairhope, Alabama, where he had been living. Groom’s novel sold 1.7 million copies based on the popularity of the film, which won six Oscars in 1995, including Best Picture, Best Actor for star Tom Hanks, and Best Director for Robert Zemeckis. Groom’s other novels included Better Times Than These, As Summers Die, Only, Gone the Sun, Such a Pretty, Pretty Girl and the 2016 El Paso. He also wrote the 2000 University of Alabama Press book The Crimson Tide: An Illustrated History of Football at the University of Alabama, and an updated 2010 second version, The Crimson Tide: The Official Illustrated History of Alabama Football, National Championship Edition. Idaho’s #BurnTheMask Rally Sees Kids Tossing Face Masks Into Fire
Gallery Launch Gallery Getty Idaho is attempting to pass legislation that would make it illegal for government entities to enforce mask mandates -- something folks there are celebrating by rolling out burn barrels and having their children fan the flames with actual face coverings. The supposed state-wide protest happening Saturday is being dubbed #FreeIdaho or #BurnTheMask -- and it was organized, in part, by Idaho State Representatives Dorothy Moon and Heather Scott ... who plugged the event earlier this week in a joint video they filmed. The politicians say they support the "grassroots" movement to show disapproval of different mandates that have gone into effect across the state over the past year.
