The hurdles are high. But if we learned anything from the recent vaccine development it should be that big things can happen when we all put our heads together, attack a common problem, and commit to making meaningful change. One easy change you can pledge to make is to walk the sustainable walk when shopping for shoes . Many titans of the footwear industry have probably earned a long walk of shame as shoe production accounts for a fifth of the fashion industry’s environmental impact and generates 1.4 percent of global carbon emissions annually. But nowadays, there are players like Allbirds and Rothy’s, as well as established giants like Adidas and Converse , who are thinking outside of the shoebox and making it easy to be green. A whole new world of vegan leather, bamboo … [Read more...] about Best Foot Forward: These 13 Shoe Brands Pair Style With Sustainability

RS Recommends: The Best Canned Cocktails to Sip On-the-Go This Season
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. We all had our hot hard seltzer summer moment last year, and that was admittedly a great time to be a refreshing drink-in-a-can. While hard seltzer has cemented its place in our backyard coolers for now, we like to think of that trend as more a stepping stone to recognizing that you don’t have to sacrifice well-crafted flavors for portability. The best canned cocktails, or ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails, have really stepped up their game in the past few years, offering surprisingly upscale spirits, and in some case replicating the taste of a freshly mixed drink to a T, all in an easy-to-carry package. There are more diverse offerings than ever, from margs and ranch waters, to even whiskey cocktails and gin-based bevvies. Whatever your libation, we guarantee that there’s a canned cocktail out there for you. You may think that … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: The Best Canned Cocktails to Sip On-the-Go This Season
RS Recommends: Get Polk Audio’s Sound Bar and Subwoofer Combo for Just $179
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. It’s no secret that sound bars are a lot better than the speakers in your TV, and right now you get Polk’s Signa S2 Ultra-Slim Sound Bar for just $179 on Amazon (regularly $229+). This is one of the best deals for a sound bar and subwoofer combo, as $179 is a price you’d normally pay for just a sound bar itself. This Polk sound bar is only 2.15 inches tall, which means it can fit under your TV without cutting into the bottom of the screen. It’s a 2.1 sound bar, which means it has multiple drivers (the part of a speaker that produces sound), plus a subwoofer for added bass. It won’t replace a 5.1 home theater system, but the Signa S2 will produce excellent stereo sound. Amazon Buy: Polk Audio Signa S2 Ultra-Slim at $179.00 You can connect the Signa S2 to your TV with an HDMI, optical, or 3.5mm cable, and … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: Get Polk Audio’s Sound Bar and Subwoofer Combo for Just $179
RS Recommends: Sennheiser’s HD 400 PRO Studio Headphones Make Sure What Goes In Is What Comes Out
Audio product names usually contain an esoteric combination of numbers and letters. It’s easy to sound like an audiophilic elitist when asking someone whether they prefer, say, the MKH 8060 or the MKH 8070. But in the case of the Sennheiser HD 400 PRO headphones , the product name is at least somewhat illustrative. PRO is not an acronym—these are professional-standard studio headphones. This means a few things. First, although you don’t need to be a professional engineer to consider buying a pair, the audio quality, depth and transparency of the 400 PROs will significantly upgrade your studio set-up. Second, the 400 PROs are designed to be used in the studio (or your closest equivalent) and not on the go. The attached cable has a 3.5 mm jack plug (and a 6.3 mm adapter), so there’s nothing to stop you using them elsewhere. But open ear cups are integral to the design, meaning these headphones are not equipped to block out background noise. Third, the 400 PROs are … [Read more...] about RS Recommends: Sennheiser’s HD 400 PRO Studio Headphones Make Sure What Goes In Is What Comes Out

‘Better Call Saul’ Recap: Kim Reverts to a Life of Crime
A review of this week’s Better Call Saul , “Axe and Grind,” just as soon as we sidebar in the law library… “Relax. You got away with it.” —Kim’s mom What happens to Kim? This is a question I asked regarding the last Saul episode to feature young Kim (still played by Katie Beth Hall, with her hair pulled partially back, but not yet in the full power- ponytail of adult Kim) and Kim’s mom (Beth Hoyt, who still looks and sounds uncannily like Rhea Seehorn). That episode, “Wexler V. Goodman,” opened with young Kim walking away from her drunken mother rather than getting into a car with her. It closed with Kim explaining in great detail why she had every good reason to break up with Jimmy, only for her to declare at the last moment that perhaps they should get married instead. It was Kim’s weakness for hustlers and damaged people winning out over her understanding of what is good, both for her and the world at large. “Axe and Grind” begins a bit differently, though it … [Read more...] about ‘Better Call Saul’ Recap: Kim Reverts to a Life of Crime
Inside George Miller’s 20-Year Quest To Make ‘Three Thousand Years Of Longing’, As ‘Furiosa’ Revs Her Engines – Cannes
EXCLUSIVE : George Miller is distracted. Five minutes into our meeting, he begs forgiveness to take a quick call. And then, on an iPad tilted in his direction, the filmmaker watches as a camera feed from the Australian outback offers him a live view of a pre-shoot for his next feature, Furiosa . His supervising stunt coordinator and second unit director, Guy Norris, whose work with Miller stretches back to 1981’s Mad Max sequel The Road Warrior , is already shooting sequences for the new film. Set 15 years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road , the film will tell the backstory of Charlize Theron’s enigmatic Furiosa, this time played by Anya Taylor-Joy. “Here I am doing an interview with you halfway across the world, and I’m able to look at this footage being shot far west from where I am and we’re discussing it as we go through the process,” says Miller, marveling at the technology. “It’s amazing, really.” It has been seven years since Fury Road … [Read more...] about Inside George Miller’s 20-Year Quest To Make ‘Three Thousand Years Of Longing’, As ‘Furiosa’ Revs Her Engines – Cannes
Emily Wurramara’s Guide to Travelling the NT
Musician Emily Wurramara is a Warnindilyakwa woman from Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island in the Northern Territory . Wurramara has deep roots in the two Gulf of Carpentaria islands, dating back to her grandmother and grandfather, who both grew up on Groote and Bickerton. In a new video produced by Rolling Stone Australia and Tourism NT, Wurramara shares her affection for the islands’ natural wonders and the cultural highlights of the NT. Growing up on Groote Eylandt and Bickerton Island, Wurramara spent a lot of time at the beach. “The water for us is very sacred,” she says. “A lot of the men in my family are hunters, so they’d go on the beach, on the canoes, and they’d go hunting for turtle, for dugong or for stingray.” A lot of Warnindilyakwa songlines run through the sea. Songlines are essentially directions for travel held within Indigenous songs. Generations of First Nations people have memorised songs in order to reach certain destinations. Songlines also … [Read more...] about Emily Wurramara’s Guide to Travelling the NT
