The National Association of Television Program Executives ( NATPE ) is moving its flagship January event from its long-time home in Miami 180 miles across the water to a new base in Nassau in the Bahamas . The plan, which many international execs have been aware of for several months, takes NATPE to the Bahamas Mar Resort and Conference Center from next year’s event, which takes place on January 17-19. The Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami has been NATPE’s home since 2011, though the previous two editions have been held online due to the Covid pandemic. Prior to that it was held in Las Vegas and further back in cities such as New Orleans, LA, New York, Houston and San Francisco. Nantucket Film Festival Wraps 27th Edition, Joining Other Regional Fests In Navigating Pandemic Comeback Challenges

June 28, 2022 by deadline.com

At first glance, it seems more idyllic than angsty on the island of Nantucket, a tony dollop of sand and clapboard houses 30 miles off the Massachusetts coast. Tourists have returned in force to the cobblestone streets, passing shops and restaurants nestled in the center of a centuries-old town square. Summer is here, and the Covid ordeal is starting to fade into memory. Yet the pandemic is very much with the Nantucket Film Festival , which wrapped its first fully in-person edition since 2019 on Monday. Like a couple dozen other well-established regional fests across the U.S., Nantucket is navigating the most challenging operating environment in its 27 years of existence. Today, it announced its annual slate of awards, topped by the Feature Film Audience Award winner, It Ain’t Over . Director Sean Mullin named his film after one of the enduring and eccentric aphorisms of late New York Yankees great Yogi Berra. While Yogi’s rallying cry holds true for the dozens of film … [Read more...] about Nantucket Film Festival Wraps 27th Edition, Joining Other Regional Fests In Navigating Pandemic Comeback Challenges

Jason Kander Was a Rising Star in the Democratic Party. Then He Went on Suicide Watch

June 28, 2022 by www.rollingstone.com

Scandal, drugs, assault, outright crime — American voters have learned to forgive all of these. But historically, there’s been one thing that no politician returns from: mental illness. No one knew that better than Jason Kander, a former Army Captain who returned from Afghanistan and immediately began a meteoric political ascent, one that took him from the Missouri House of Representatives at the age of 27 to the first name on Barack Obama’s lips when he was asked in 2017 who he saw as the future of the Democratic party. Pollsters polled, cameras flashed, tv interview requests came flooding in. Jason’s star got shinier and shinier. At night, though, when his world grew quiet, Jason was unable to sleep for fear of paralyzing nightmares. He was on high alert every waking minute, and increasingly distant from his wife and infant son. Like many vets, Jason had left the war, but the war hadn’t left him. He didn’t want to believe he was suffering from PTSD because he had never heard of … [Read more...] about Jason Kander Was a Rising Star in the Democratic Party. Then He Went on Suicide Watch
