The Vikings saga will continue on Netflix. The streamer has picked up Vikings: Valhalla, a sequel to the hit series which is heading into its sixth and final season on History. I hear Netflix has ordered 24 episodes of the new series, from Vikings creator Michael Hirst and studio MGM Television, which continues the storytelling of the original. Written and executive produced by feature writer Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive), Vikings: Valhalla begins 100 years after the original series concludes and dramatizes the adventures of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant). These men and women will blaze new paths as they fight for survival in an ever changing and evolving Europe. This is the explosive next chapter of the Vikings legend. Stuart executive produces with Vikings executive producers Hirst and Morgan O’Sullivan for MGM Television. EXCLUSIVE: History’s flagship scripted series Vikings will be ending its run after the upcoming 20-episode sixth season. As the hit drama is wrapping, History, Vikings creator Michael Hirst and studio MGM Television, are looking to extend the Vikings franchise with a new series. I’ve learned that the network is in talks with MGM and Hirst about a new series from the same creative team as the original series, which would continue the Vikings saga. If the offshoot project, which is in early stages, moves forward, Hirst will be joined by feature writer Jeb Stuart (Die Hard, The Fugitive). Vikings, which will end its run after a total of 89 episodes, is currently halfway through airing the back 10 episodes of its 20-episode fifth season, with the finale slated for Jan. 30. The series recently wrapped production on the final sixth season, which is expected to debut later this year, with the last episodes likely airing in 2020. A rep for History confirmed to Deadline that … [Read more...] about ‘Vikings’ To End After Season 6, Followup Series In Works At History From Michael Hirst & MGM Television
EXCLUSIVE: The Virtues and Raised By Wolves’ Niamh Algar is boarding Miramax’s hot upcoming Guy Ritchie action thriller that stars Jason Statham. As Deadline previously revealed, the project, which re-teams Ritchie and Statham for the first time since Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver, was acquired by MGM domestically and was one of the buzziest titles at the recent AFM. Irish actress Algar’s credits include Shane Meadows’ The Virtues and Toronto premiere Calm With Horses. She also has a key role in the Ridley Scott-produced Raised By Wolves for HBO Max. Details of Algar’s role in Ritchie’s film, which has previously been known as Cash Truck, but is formally untitled, are being kept under wraps. The film was one of the hot properties at the AFM, and was acquired domestically by MGM to be distributed via joint venture UA Releasing. MGM also acquired a handful of international markets. Lionsgate nabbed UK. The … [Read more...] about Niamh Algar Joins Guy Ritchie/Jason Statham Action-Thriller In Lead Female Role
A half-century after the actor and director Carl Reiner tried depicting the life of churlish silent movie star in 'The Comic,' both Hollywood icons reflect on the career footnote: "What we were going for, really, was authenticity." Both Carl Reiner and Dick Van Dyke have always loved silent-movie clowns. At one point, they even teamed up to tell the story of one — a fictional composite of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and other superstars — who was portrayed as a lying, cheating, egotistical jerk. The movie — which opens on the protagonist's funeral, then jumps back through time — was called The Comic, and, shortly after it hit theaters in New York exactly 50 years ago on Nov. 19, it disappeared. But Van Dyke and Reiner can't quite forget the film, which has become an odd footnote in their legendary careers. By way of backstory, Van Dyke, now 93, recalls to The Hollywood Reporter how he became friends with his silent-era idols Stan Laurel, who died … [Read more...] about 50 Years Later, Dick Van Dyke Can’t Forget His “Bad Guy” Silent Movie Clown Role
It has been well over a year since Spectre hit theaters and in the time since, the James Bond franchise has been on relatively uncertain ground. The only real certainty being that the franchise is going to continue on one way or the other, be it with current 007 Daniel Craig or with a new actor in the iconic role. Despite the seeming uncertainty, James Bond 25 looks like it is on the right track as it has been revealed that the production is looking to film in Croatia, possibly before the end of the year. The report comes courtesy of the fan site MI6 HQ who are reporting that Eon Productions, the company in charge of the James Bond franchise, is in negotiations to shoot the next installment in Croatia. The news came directly from the mayor of the city of Dubrovnik, who reported at a press conference that was held recently for Robin Hood: Origins, which is also filming there, that 007 is likely heading to Croatia. Here is what he had to say. "James Bond is in an advanced stage of … [Read more...] about James Bond 25 to Begin Shooting in Croatia This Year?
