The first two months of 2021 have brought no shortage of compelling, even great, movies and TV series but in March we’re getting some full-on events. A big, new animated Disney movie! Eddie Murphy returns to one of his most famous roles! Godzilla fights King Kong! Zack Snyder fights the limitations of a theatrical running time! It’s madness in the month of March! (If only there was some kind of pithy phrase that could be used to describe such a thing). March will also see the departure of a great sitcom and a new Marvel series. There’s no shortage of intriguing-looking things to watch, in other words, starting with a promising-looking first film from a familiar name. Debris (NBC, March 1st) What would it take to make a brash CIA agent (Jonathan Tucker) and a … [Read more...] about What to Watch in March: ‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ New MCU Series and Prince Akeem Returns to America

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo Apologizes For “Insensitive” Behavior As State AG Preps Independent Investigation Of Harassment Claims

· February 28, 2021 ·

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo apologized if comments he’s made to female aides were interpreted as “unwanted flirtation” but denied he ever touched or propositioned anyone. In a statement issued Sunday evening, he asked for an outside, independent review of allegations by two women. Last week, a former aide Lindsey Boylan in a blog post accused the governor of advances including an unwanted kiss and an invitation to play strip poker. Yesterday, the New York Times published an interview with another former aide, Charlotte Bennett , 25, who said the governor had harassed her last spring at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. She left the administration in November. “At work sometimes I think I am being playful and make jokes that I think are funny. I do, on occasion, tease people in what I think is a good natured way,” Cuomo said. “I do it in public and in private. You have seen me do it at briefings hundreds of times. I have teased people about their personal … [Read more...] about NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo Apologizes For “Insensitive” Behavior As State AG Preps Independent Investigation Of Harassment Claims

Donald Trump Derides “Hillary Lover” Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes Speech

· January 8, 2017 ·

Meryl Streep is a “Hillary lover” and one of the “liberal movie people” who have deliberately misconstrued what was his intention when he imitated a physically challenged New York Times reporter at a rally speech during his campaign, Donald Trump said after tonight’s Golden Globe Awards ceremony, in an interview with the New York Times . Trump said he had not seen Streep’s speech as she accepted the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B DeMille Award, or any of the other remarks made about him during the awards ceremony broadcast on NBC, but was “not surprised” to have been attacked by “liberal movie people,” NYT reported. Accepting the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B DeMille Award, Streep never mentioned the president-elect by name; instead saying , “There was one performance this year that stunned me — it sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good; there was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. … [Read more...] about Donald Trump Derides “Hillary Lover” Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes Speech

Woodstock: ‘It Was Like Balling for the First Time’

· September 20, 1969 ·

WOODSTOCK , N.Y. — Chicago was only the labor pains. With a joyous three-day shriek, the inheritors of the earth came to life in an alfalfa field outside the village of Bethel, New York. Slapping the spark of life into the newborn was American rock and roll music provided by the Woodstock Music and Art Fair. And Dylan’s Mr. Jones, who has, indeed, been aware of what is happening, but has preferred to denounce the immorality of fucking around with his values, is now forced to acknowledge both the birth and its legitimacy. The New York Times , which had given the story front-page coverage for three days running, thundered on its editorial page the Monday-after that it was “an outrageous episode” and demanded to know “what kind of culture it is that can produce so colossal a mess?” But, in a reversal astounding for that Establishment journal, a second editorial Tuesday sheepishly allowed that the gathering was “essentially a phenomenon of innocence . . . they came, it seems, to … [Read more...] about Woodstock: ‘It Was Like Balling for the First Time’

Cuomo Asks State AG and Chief Judge to Appoint Independent Lawyer to Investigate Sexual Harassment Claims

· February 28, 2021 ·

A spokesperson for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the governor’s office is asking New York Attorney General Letitia James and the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of New York to appoint an independent investigator to conduct a review of accusations of sexual harassment by the governor. “The Governor’s Office wants a review of the sexual harassment claims made against the Governor to be done in a manner beyond reproach. We had selected former Federal Judge Barbara Jones, with a stellar record for qualifications and integrity, but we want to avoid even the perception of a lack of independence or inference of politics,” Beth Garvey, special counsel and senior advisor to Cuomo, said in a statement Sunday, according to CNN .
