Diane Warren And Laura Pausini Win Original Song Golden Globe For ‘Io Si (Seen)’ From ‘The Life Ahead’

· February 28, 2021 ·

UPDATED with video: Six-time Golden Globe award nominee and, now, two-time winner Diane Warren was brief in her acceptance speech for Best Original Song – Motion Picture on Sunday, when the habitually soft-spoken composer got to the point for her work on “Io Si (Seen)” from Netflix’s The Life Ahead . She thanked director Eduardo Ponti, and the film’s star – and Ponti’s famous mother — Sophia Loren. She then said of the film, “It’s such a beautiful story about people who aren’t really seen and they see each other and they see each other through love. And that’s what inspired the song. So thank you again. Warren shares the award with Niccolò Agliardi and Laura Pausini , the latter of whom also spoke. Pausini thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press, saying, “Grazie Mille,” which translates to “a thousand graces” in Italian. “Io Si (Seen)” won in a field that also included nominees “Fight for You” by D’Mile, H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas from Judas and the Black Messiah ; … [Read more...] about Diane Warren And Laura Pausini Win Original Song Golden Globe For ‘Io Si (Seen)’ From ‘The Life Ahead’

Free Speech Insurance: An Idea That Could Even Help The Oscars

· February 15, 2021 ·

I was mulling a New York Post report that half the employees at The New York Times are afraid to say what they’re thinking when it hit me.  It’s time for Free Speech Insurance. This is nothing like libel insurance, which protects a publisher, and maybe a writer, from defamation claims. Under a Free Speech policy from Mutual of Nowhere, you wouldn’t be allowed to defame, abuse or promise violence against anyone. TJ Ducklo would still be out of a White House job if he threatened to “destroy” a Politico reporter. No claim there. No compensation. But good free speech coverage would pay if you are fired, suspended, banned from professional status or otherwise deprived of income or community standing for voicing a thought that bothers someone else. · March 1, 2021 ·

EXCLUSIVE : Game Of Thrones and For Life star Indira Varma is set to join Disney +’s upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, we understand. Star Wars prequel stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are already aboard for the series, which McGregor recently teased was getting underway in the spring. Varma’s character details are under wraps, as are plot details on the drama, which is based on McGregor’s prequel movie character. Christensen will reprise his role as Darth Vader. The show is expected to take place between the final movie of George Lucas’s prequels, Revenge Of The Sith , and A New Hope . McGregor also confirmed last month that the series will be directed by Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes in the first series of The Mandalorian , and that it will use the same technology as The Mandalorian , the StageCraft tech, in which the show’s detailed SFX backgrounds are projected onto ultra-high resolution screens behind the actors. Former New York Times Reporter Donald McNeil Responds To Controversy Over Remarks

· March 1, 2021 ·

Donald G. McNeil Jr., the veteran New York Times reporter who left the newspaper last month amid the controversy over his use of a racial slur, responded to accusations against him in a lengthy series of Medium posts today. McNeil, who had been with the Times since 1976 and specialized in coverage of infectious diseases, had used the n-word during a discussion he was having with high school students on a Times-sponsored trip to Peru. In January, The Daily Beast informed McNeil that it was working on a story about his conduct during the trip, which also included claims of other offensive statements. In the Medium posts, McNeil wrote that the Beast’s depiction of him was inaccurate, but he also faulted the Times for the way that it handled its response to the story.
