Disney has debuted a suite of tools and offerings for advertisers designed to unify its linear networks and streaming platforms into a streamlined home for sponsored messages. At a tech showcase for media buyers, an online prelude to the traditional mid-May upfront, executives emphasized the versatility of Disney, especially since the company took full control of Hulu in 2019. At the time of that transaction, Hulu was generating more than $1 billion in ad revenue, with eMarketer estimating it will reach $2.7 billion this year as dollars continue to migrate to streaming. The new lineup includes Disney Select, a way for marketers to select desired audiences from the company’s portfolio based on buyer behavior, household characteristics and psychographics. Emmys 2020: ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ ‘Watchmen,’ ‘Succession’ Win Big
Host Jimmy Kimmel started the 72nd annual Emmys on Sunday night with a question on every viewer’s mind: “Why are we having an awards show in the middle of a pandemic?” Yet for as surreal or, worse, tacky as the event could have been, there were still several surprising moments. The most jaw-dropping turn of events was the way Schitt’s Creek made a historic clean sweep of all of the major comedy awards. It’s the first time a single show won all of the top comedy awards. Meanwhile, the evening’s most recognized show, Watchmen , won the top honor in the Limited Series category, as well as two acting trophies, and one for writing. Succession and Ozark were tied in drama series nominations, but Succession mostly edged out the Netflix show, which scored a statuette for actress Julia Garner, claiming Best Drama Series and trophies for director, writing, and “L to the O-G” rapper Jeremy Strong for Best Actor. Sony Music Invests in a $15 Million Round for Livestreaming Platform Maestro
Livestreaming platform Maestro announced on Tuesday that it has closed a $15 Million Series B investment round, courting Sony Music Entertainment — the second largest of the “big three” music labels — along with Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin and several venture capital firms as investors. Chinese technology company NetEase, Acronym Venture Capital and Moonwell Capital, founded by former Activision Blizzard executives also joined in the round. Maestro has raised $22 million to date. As concerts remain on hold, livestreaming has grown increasingly competitive , for artists and livestreaming platforms alike. Sony is the latest major music company to put cash into the livestreaming market, joining Live Nation, which recently bought a majority stake in Joel and Benji Madden’s livestreaming platform Veeps — along with competing record company Universal Music, which invested in Big Hit Entertainment’s platform VenewLive earlier this year.
