Bert Fields , the relentlessly loyal powerhouse entertainment lawyer who repped clients including Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Tom Cruise , George Lucas , the Beatles, Michael Jackson and many others in myriad headline-making cases in Hollywood, has died, TMZ reports . He was 93. A partner at Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger LLP, Fields tried many of the landmark cases in the entertainment and communications industries during the past several decades. Armando Iannucci is staying in business with HBO and is teaming up with Sam Mendes for the ride. The Veep and Avenue 5 creator and the Oscar-winning director have scored a pilot order for comedy The Franchise at the premium cable network. The half-hour project takes a wry look at superhero movie-making. It follows a hopeful crew trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of franchise superhero movie-making. If and when they finally make the day, the question they must face — is this Hollywood’s new dawn or cinema’s last stand? Is this a dream factory or a chemical plant? It comes after Deadline revealed that Iannucci’s space voyage comedy Avenue 5 may be coming to an end with its upcoming second season. Jonathan Rhys Meyers , Oscar winner Melissa Leo and Antonio Banderas have signed onto the Yale Entertainment action-crime thriller Clean Up Crew from director Jon Keeyes. The Ireland-based production recently wrapped, and Yale’s recently-launched sales banner Great Escape, led by Nick Donnermeyer, will handle foreign rights and introduce the title at next month’s Toronto Film Festival. Pic follows a crime scene clean-up crew, which includes Rhys Meyers and Leo’s characters, who discover a briefcase full of cash, unknowingly sending them into battle with mobsters – led by a ruthless crime boss, played by Banderas, as well as hitmen, and corrupt government agents who are hellbound to get the dough back. Clean Up Crew was written by Matthew Rogers. The jury finished hearing closing arguments Tuesday morning in the trial of three white men charged with the murder of Ahmaud Arbery , an unarmed Black man, on a residential street in Brunswick, Georgia . The February 2020 killing occurred while Arbery was running through the neighborhood of Satilla Shores; a father and son believed he looked like someone responsible for nearby break-ins, armed themselves, and pursued him in a pickup truck, with a neighbor joining the pursuit in a second pickup truck. Arbery was shot multiple times at close range. The case went without arrests for more than two months and would later spark protests for racial justice, as many described the shooting as a prominent instance of racial violence.
