March 28, 2023 by www.tmz.com

Getty Magic Johnson may soon be adding the title of NFL owner to his legacy ... the NBA icon is part of a group that just submitted an offer to buy the Washington Commanders that meets Dan Snyder 's asking price. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Lakers Hall of Famer, alongside 76ers owner Josh Harris and billionaire Mitchell Rales , officially submitted a $6 billion bid to buy the franchise on Tuesday. TMZ/Backgrid The move would spell bad news for Jeff Bezos and Jay-Z ... as the two titans had big interest in buying the Commanders, even grabbing dinner in L.A. back in November to formulate a potential purchase plan. Getty Brad Pitt has just sold an estate he's owned for almost 3 decades ... an estate he used to sharpen his pretty amazing architectural skills. Real estate sources tell TMZ ... ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ Grabs Another $3M; ‘Sweeney Todd’ Sells Out For $1.4M – Broadway Box Office

March 28, 2023 by deadline.com

Broadway’s The Phantom of the Opera had yet another smashing, down-to-the-wire week at the Majestic, grossing more than $3 million for the second consecutive week as the countdown to its April 16 closing continues. Meanwhile, another villainous character – the bloodthirsty killer of the ecstatically reviewed Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street – also made good, selling out its opening week at the Lunt-Fontanne with a $1,394,402 gross. Average ticket price was $132.98. The two productions made hefty contributions to Broadway’s overall box office take of $32,656,200 for the week ending March 26. That’s a 4% dip from the previous week, although attendance of 259,758 held steady. The slip in receipts reflects a slightly lower average ticket price, due at least in some part to the annual Kids Week promotion, in which attendees under 18 at 21 of Broadway’s 31 shows got in free. Bad Cinderella , the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, also opened (but to … [Read more...] about ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ Grabs Another $3M; ‘Sweeney Todd’ Sells Out For $1.4M – Broadway Box Office

March 28, 2023 by deadline.com

Tango, the producer of the Sundance pic Shortcomings , is continuing to set up its future slate as it has come on to adapt the subversive rom com novel Book Lovers , into a feature film based on the #1 New York Times Bestseller from Emily Henry , the hit author behind three other New York Times Bestsellers over the last three years. Sarah Heyward is attached to write the script, which will be produced by Tango. Book Lovers tells the story of Nora, a cutthroat literary agent who, convinced by her sister to spend one August holiday in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, keeps running into Charlie, a bookish, brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute. If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again — in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow — what they discover might just unravel the … [Read more...] about Tango To Adapt Emily Henry’s Novel ‘Book Lovers’ Into Movie

ABC Renewal Status Report: ‘Station 19’, ‘The Good Doctor’, ‘The Rookie’, ‘The Conners’, ‘Big Sky’ & More

March 28, 2023 by deadline.com

Fourth in a series on status of broadcast network series renewals. Amid Disney companywide cutbacks, which include the elimination of 7,000 jobs , ABC is taking a measured approach to its scripted series renewals. Only one show, award-winning sophomore comedy Abbott Elementary, received a very early Season 3 pickup in January. It was joined on Friday by drama stalwart Grey’s Anatomy, which was renewed for Season 20. That leaves the majority of the network’s scripted roster in a holding pattern — all except the two already renewed as well as The Goldbergs and A Million Little Things , which are ending their runs this spring. With four drama pilots (including The Good Doctor planted spinoff) and two comedy pilots — the most for a broadcast network this season and all headlined by big-name stars — ABC is expected to take longer than usual on most renewals. It would use the time to evaluate a number of the current series against the pilots for the limited slots … [Read more...] about ABC Renewal Status Report: ‘Station 19’, ‘The Good Doctor’, ‘The Rookie’, ‘The Conners’, ‘Big Sky’ & More

Fox News Tops March And Q1 Ratings, But News Network Audiences Continue To Drop Versus 2022; CNN Sees Steep Primetime Decline

March 28, 2023 by deadline.com

Fox News topped March ratings , but all of the major news networks saw double digit erosion from the same month in 2022. CNN saw some of the steepest declines, with it primetime audience down 61% from March of 2022, and dropping 73% in the 25-54 demo. One factor: The lack of a dominant news story. The Ukraine war dominated the news cycle in the same period a year ago, and CNN actually saw a viewership spike back then. But the network has been trying to retool its 9 PM ET hour, scheduling special townhalls and one-on-one interviews. The network has said that the programming is a bit of an experiment that has not seen a full promotional push, while sources say it has been talking to figures like Gayle King and Charles Barkley about hosting a weekly show in the slot. The network also is launching an overhaul of its daytime lineup next month. While CNN beat MSNBC in the 25-54 primetime demo during the first quarter, it was edged out by the NBCU network during March. … [Read more...] about Fox News Tops March And Q1 Ratings, But News Network Audiences Continue To Drop Versus 2022; CNN Sees Steep Primetime Decline

Regal Parent Cineworld Expects Bids For Theaters Outside U.S./UK, Says Plan To Exit Chapter 11 Nearly Ready

March 28, 2023 by deadline.com

An attorney for bankrupt movie theater chain Cineworld said today it has “several” interested parties eyeing its business in “rest of world” — meaning Israel and Europe outside the UK — but nothing pending for the entire company, or, it seems for Regal in the U.S. Final bids are due April 10, said Joshua Sussberg of Kirland Ellis. Two strategic suitors potentially were interested in the full company, but the offers were too lowball to consider moving forward with. Meanwhile, he said, a comprehensive restructuring plan is close to being ready as Regal, its lenders and unsecured creditors are “dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.” Sussberg said he hoped a plan might be filed as soon as Wednesday. A rep for the lenders agreed the sides are close, but he noted that these “are important i’s to dot and t’s to cross.” Cineworld filed for bankruptcy last fall in U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Texas. Judge Marvin Isgur said today he’s sticking with an April … [Read more...] about Regal Parent Cineworld Expects Bids For Theaters Outside U.S./UK, Says Plan To Exit Chapter 11 Nearly Ready

Gallery Launch Gallery Getty/THE SHER GROUP Kat Von D has finally found a buyer for her home, the same property once featured in 2003's "Cheaper by the Dozen" -- selling the massive pad to the owner of one of L.A.'s most famous cemeteries. Real estate sources tell us the 12,565-square-foot 13-bed and 10-bathroom mansion in L.A. is closing Tuesday for $7.75 mil ... TMZ broke the story, Kat listed it back in January for $15M. THE SHER GROUP We're told the lucky buyer is Tyler James Cassity , co-owner of Hollywood Forever Cemetery -- kinda fitting, given the gothic/victorian vibes all over the home. THE SHER GROUP Kat bought the home back in 2016 for $6.5M and did a ton of restoring. Just like the decor, the home's got some unique perks -- like a hidden bar, hand-carved walls, a library, and a whopping 7 fireplaces! It also has the obligatory pool and spa out back.
