It’s the hub of communication for those in media.Countless writers and editors are currently looking at screens saying “connection trouble,” and screaming in horror.As I write this, I too am dealing with the dread of a Slackless existence. Kensington Palace confirmed Tuesday that Prince Harry's fiancee Meghan Markle has shut down her social media accounts in line with royal tradition.The American closed her Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. The palace said Markle "is grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years" but "she has not used these accounts for some time." No worries, though, for royal watchers. Kensington Palace has accounts of its own.Word of the change came after the two visited a community radio station in Brixton that trains youngsters in media skills. Podcasting startup Gimlet Media has appointed Hulu veteran Jenny Wall as its first chief marketing officer. In her new role, Wall will oversee all marketing and audience growth for the company behind the podcasts Reply All, Homecoming and StartUp. Wall, citing the growth in the podcasting industry in recent years, tells The Hollywood Reporter that Gimlet "has the potential to be the HBO of audio." The three-year-old company has produced more than a dozen podcasts, but has to date relied primarily on word of mouth to grow its audience. Now, Wall will seek to build the brand name. Wall will bring to Gimlet several years of experience working at HBO, Netflix and, most recently, Hulu. At Hulu, she served as senior vp and head of marketing, overseeing marketing, promotion and creativity for the company and its shows, including The Handmaid's Tale. She left Hulu in May. Though Sunday night's Golden Globes was about honoring the best in film and television, the night's top social media moments revolved around Oprah Winfrey and the Time's Up movement. In the last 24 hours, the #TimesUp hashtag was tweeted more than 520,000 times, becoming the second-most-tweeted hashtag during the night, following #GoldenGlobes. The other movement-inspired hashtag, #WhyWeWearBlack, was tweeted more than 170,000 times. On Twitter, the night’s biggest moment was Winfrey being honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award followed by HBO’s Big Little Lies' win for best limited series. Jennifer Lopez wore all black while apparently speaking to media in Puerto Rico on Sunday, which she noted was for the #TimesUp movement. A number of actresses will wear black to the Golden Globes on Sunday evening in solidarity to stand up against sexual harassment and sexual assault, and to promote equality. Although Lopez can not attend the awards show, she wanted fellow actresses to know she is with them. "Today is the Golden Globes in Los Angeles, and a lot of the women, with hashtag Times Up, are standing up for equality — to be treated equally and for sexual harassment," Lopez said in a video posted to social media.
