EXCLUSIVE : Candle Media -backed Spanish-language powerhouse Exile Content Studio has promoted Nando Vila to succeed Daniel Eilemberg as Head of Studio. Vila moves up from his Head of Audio and Unscripted Television post and will oversee the Latin-focused outfit’s film and TV content strategy. He is a former Vice President of Programming at Fusion TV where he exec produced, created and hosted the likes of political sketch comedy show Happy Ending, while he also exec produced Emmy-nominated documentary The Naked Truth: Trumpland. Vila succeeds Eilemberg, who became CEO of the Lil’ Heroes NFT franchise last month when Exile took a majority stake in that franchise. New York Film Festival Sets Main Slate For 60th Edition
The 60th New York Film Festival on Tuesday unveiled its main slate of movies from established and upcoming directors including Cannes’ Palme d’Or winner Triangle of Sadness by Ruben Östlund, Claire Denis ’ Stars at Noon (tied for Cannes Grand Prize), Park Chan-wook ’s Decision to Leave (Cannes Best Director) and Charlotte Wells ’ debut feature Aftersun (Cannes’ French Touch Jury Prize). The list of 32 films from 18 countries also features Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes , which took the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in World Cinema and the l’Oeil d’Or for best documentary at Cannes. Germany’s Koch Films Rebrands As Plaion Pictures
Leading independent German distribution label Koch Films has been renamed as Plaion Pictures . The move is part of a larger rebranding operation by parent company Koch Media Group, which is also a major video games developer and publisher. From now on, the parent group will be known simply as Plaion, pronounced “play-on”. Based just outside Munich, Koch Films is one of Germany ’s theatrical distributors. Recent high-profile acquisitions have included Parasite , Titane , The Worst Person In The World and Cannes 2022 titles Broker , Decision To Leave , Mascarade and Men . “Koch Films has developed from a sales organization primarily active in German-speaking Europe to an international film company. EXCLUSIVE : The BBC is betting big on season two of Heyday Television ’s deepfake spy thriller The Capture , promoting it to the coveted Bank Holiday weekend 9pm slot that in recent years has been occupied by Bodyguard , Peaky Blinders and Vigil.
