Fox News Channel primetime host Bill O’Reilly devoted the better part of Tuesday to Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) after likening her hair to a “James Brown wig.” It started this morning when, appearing on Fox & Friends , Waters came up, because Democrats + Fox & Friends = morning show hilarity. “I love her! Maxine Waters should have her own sitcom,” O’Reilly said by way of opening the festivities. “People get angry with Maxine waters. I want more of it. Let’s go!” The show played a clip of Waters speaking about President Donald Trump ; she is not a fan. O’Reilly, who is a pal of Trump’s, got asked to comment on her remarks. “I didn’t hear a word she said,” he responded. “I was looking at the James Brown wig. If we have a picture of James Brown – it’s the same wig!” He went on: “You’re all wrong about Maxine Waters; she’s a sincere individual. Whatever she says she believes; she’s not a phony. Alright? Latest BFI Stats Suggest Britain’s Age Of Peak TV May Be Over
Britain’s age of peak TV may be over, or at the very least plateauing, today’s BFI stats suggest . Following a year in which many major productions including Bridgerton , Lord of the Rings and Apple TV+’s Slow Horses rolled the cameras, spend on high-end TV nonetheless fell by 4% on last year’s record figure to £4.3B ($5.3B). Both inward investment – shows commissioned by non-UK players – and domestic UK spend fell by a similar amount, with the former accounting for 84% of the total figure. Although the drop is small, the news is a surprise to a booming industry that had seen a mega 155% rise in 2021 and now accounts for a far bigger slice of the TV/film pie. The slight dip contrasted with a strong year for film, which saw spend grow by an impressive 27%, although local indie film continues to flounder. In 2020, high-end TV spend dipped dramatically due to the Covid-19 pandemic but in the years prior, it had been rising steadily each year, as the U.S. … [Read more...] about Latest BFI Stats Suggest Britain’s Age Of Peak TV May Be Over

Microsoft Laying Off 10,000 As Tech Cuts Continue
Microsoft said today it plans to lay off 10,000 employees to “align our cost structure with our revenue and where we see customer demand.” “We are making changes that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce by 10,000 jobs through the end of FY23 Q3. This represents less than 5 percent of our total employees,” said CEO Satya Nadella in a memo to employees posted on the company blog. Microsoft has a June fiscal year, so its third quarter ends in March. The software giant is also taking a $1.2 billion charge. It’s the latest in a wave of layoffs from — Alphabet to Amazon to Facebook — to hit the tech sector last year, with over 150,000 estimated in 2022. That’s due in part to a boom in hiring during the pandemic as demand for digital commerce and services hit a peak, combined with a current economic slowdown including slower demand from PCs to cloud services, and fear of a recession this year. “We are seeing the clock strike midnight for the tech sector … [Read more...] about Microsoft Laying Off 10,000 As Tech Cuts Continue
YouTube Returns To Mid-May TV Upfronts Slot In New York With Annual Brandcast Event For Advertisers
For a second straight year, YouTube will host its annual Brandcast pitch to video ad buyers during the heart of what had been a week dominated by traditional TV network upfronts in New York. The digital video giant, which had been an anchor tenant of the more digitally focused NewFronts ad showcase held earlier in the spring, made its mid-May debut last year with a show in the Broadway theater district. This year, on May 17, Brandcast is heading uptown to Lincoln Center’s recently renovated David Geffen Hall. The evening show will be followed by an after-party, YouTube said in a blog post. The Lincoln Center bash will follow a pitch to advertisers by another digital interloper on TV’s turf: Netflix, which has stepped to take over a slot long occupied by CBS and, more recently, parent company Paramount Global. (Netflix launched its new subscription tier with advertising last November in 12 territories.) With a new team running ad sales at Paramount and economic … [Read more...] about YouTube Returns To Mid-May TV Upfronts Slot In New York With Annual Brandcast Event For Advertisers
AMC Networks Confirms In-Person Upfront Event For Advertisers In April
AMC Networks is choosing to host an in-person event during the spring upfront season, confirming plans for a presentation for about 200 to 250 guests. The event, slated for Tuesday, April 18, at New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, will resemble last year’s pitch to advertisers at Peak, a restaurant near the top of a Hudson Yards skyscraper. AMC Networks has entered some choppy waters of late, with the abrupt departure last November of CEO Christina Spade after just three months in the job. James Dolan, whose family controls most of the company’s shares, was named interim executive chairman after the company signaled its intent to lay off 20% of its workforce, citing ongoing cord-cutting and other economic pressures. The annual TV upfront ritual, a blitz of in-person presentations for ad buyers with billions of ad dollars in the balance, is being evaluated across the media business. The upfronts have started to look different in recent years due to larger shifts in the media … [Read more...] about AMC Networks Confirms In-Person Upfront Event For Advertisers In April
