Dan Rather Wins Peabody Career Achievement Award
Dan Rather , whose broadcast journalism career has spanned six decades including being anchor of CBS Evening News from 1981-2005, has been given the Peabody Career Achievement Award. The honor, which the Peabody organization said is reserved for individuals whose work and commitment to broadcasting and digital media have left an indelible mark on the field and in American culture, was announced Tuesday. Dolly Parton presented Rather with the award virtually (see the video below). Previous recipients of the career honor include Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Cicely Tyson and Sam Pollard. Lionsgate, Great Point Partner For Major New Jersey Studio Complex
Lionsgate will be the key tenant with naming rights to a major new studio project in Newark, New Jersey being built being by Robert Halmi and Fehmi Zeko’s Great Point Studios . The $125 million+ project on 12 acres follows a collaboration by the partners on recently opened Lionsgate Studios in Yonkers as demand for production space continues to explode. It will be first purpose-built studio in the state specifically constructed for TV and film production and is expected to start operations in late 2004. “This is a great opportunity to scale our East Coast studio footprint [and] support our robust film and television production,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. Netflix Reups With Visual Effects And Animation Firm DNEG In $350M Extension
Visual effects and animation firm DNEG has extended its deal with Netflix through 2025. Film and TV titles produced under the partnership include Stranger Things and The Adam Project . The non-exclusive pact is worth $350 million, according to an SEC filing. DNEG’s ReDefine division will also supply VFX services and top-end creative supervision for select Netflix programming. Along with the upcoming fourth season of Stranger Things, other projects covered by the agreement include Knives Out 2, The School for Good and Evil and Avatar: The Last Airbender ; The Witcher: Blood Origin ; and upcoming fantasy comedy-adventure Slumberland for director Francis Lawrence.
