Three years after the sultry, orchestral sound she explored on Sparrow , Ashley Monroe has announced her upcoming album Rosegold . Following three albums for the Nashville major label Warner, Monroe will be self-releasing the new project on April 30th. “I am on a writing streak right now,” Monroe told Rolling Stone in 2018, after releasing Sparrow. “I’m more inspired as of right now than I’ve ever really felt. It’s good to be fired up about music.” The album’s lead single “Drive” picks up where Sparrow left off and goes further, highlighting Monroe’s genre-hopping balladry with a trip-hop breakbeat, breathy falsetto, and murky electric guitar. “I had this chorus and idea when I went in to write with Mikey Reaves and Niko Moon on September 10th (my birthday),” Monroe said of the song. “I told them my dad/other angels always send special songs on my birthday. Amber Ruffin Joins Broadway-Bound ‘Some Like It Hot’ Musical As Co-Writer
Amber Ruffin has joined the Broadway -bound team of Some Like It Hot as a co-writer of the film-to-stage adaptation. The host of Peacock’s The Amber Ruffin Show will partner with Tony nominee Matthew López on the new musical’s book. The announcement was made today by producers The Shubert Organization and Neil Meron. In a statement, producers Meron and Bob Wankel also said that Kenny Leon is joining the producing team. Some Like It Hot , based on MGM’s 1959 Billy Wilder comedy film starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe, is targeted to begin performances on Broadway in 2022. Ruffin, a four-time Emmy-nominated writer for NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers , joins a creative team that includes book writer López (Broadway’s The Inheritance ), Hairspray composer Marc Shaiman and his co-lyricist Scott Wittman, and director/choreographer Casey Nicholaw ( The Book of Mormon ). The WGA on Tuesday unveiled the movie nominations for its 2021 WGA Awards , honoring outstanding achievement for original and adapted screenplays and documentary films during 2020. Winners will be announced March 21 in a virtual ceremony. Check out the full list below. CBS ’ Monday night comedy block of The Neighborhood and Bob ♥ Abishola is coming back for another run after the network renewed the pair. The Neighborhood will return for a fourth season. and Bob ♥ Abishola will be back for a third season.
