The Runaway Bunny, through the use of hand-drawn animation, brings the illustrations of Clement Hurd and the poetry of Brown to animated life for the first time. Rep. Kevin McCarthy Reads Dr. Seuss After 6 Racists Books Pulled
I do not like green eggs and ham ... And, your reading is a sham, Kevin I am. Rep. Kevin McCarthy appeared clueless as he read Dr. Seuss 's "Green Eggs and Ham" out loud ... presumably in protest of the decision to yank 6 of the famed author's books because of racist images. McCarthy apparently wasn't down with the decision, but his choice of books to read in defiance misses the point. Fact is ... "Green Eggs and Ham" was NOT pulled. The books that were pulled ... "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street," "If I Ran the Zoo," "McElligot's Pool," "On Beyond Zebra!," "Scrambled Eggs Super!" and "The Cat's Quizzer." Vanguard Press/Random House What's more ... Congress is debating a pretty important bill -- getting stimulus checks to suffering Americans, and here sits McCarthy reading Dr. Seuss. Priorities, Kevin I am. … [Read more...] about Rep. Kevin McCarthy Reads Dr. Seuss After 6 Racists Books Pulled
‘Raya And The Last Dragon’ Debuting To $8M As Pic Hits Disney+ & NYC Reopens: Why The Industry Is Greatly Concerned
Saturday AM Update: Updated with NYC B.O. data Even with three new wide releases at this weekend’s box office, and New York City finally reopening, numbers still aren’t at pre-pandemic levels, but there’s a lot of drama going on. Let’s start with Disney ’s theatrical day and date Disney+ release of animated pic Raya and the Last Dragon which looks to be leading the weekend with a studio-reported $2.5M Friday and an industry weekend estimate of $8.3M at 2,045 theaters. These numbers are slightly less than the $3M Friday and $9M-$10M we were hearing about, and they’re definitely less than the $14.1M that Warner Bros’ same day HBO Max release of Tom & Jerry posted last weekend. Raya ‘s opening weekend is also less than Croods: A New Age ‘s 3-day opening over its Thanksgiving stretch which posted $9.7M. And that’s definitely because Disney did not reach a deal with No. 3 chain Cinemark, as we first told you (thus, losing around 250 bookings), Harkins, and … [Read more...] about ‘Raya And The Last Dragon’ Debuting To $8M As Pic Hits Disney+ & NYC Reopens: Why The Industry Is Greatly Concerned
Sonantic Brings Artificial Intelligence To New Path For Voice-Overs
In the Zagar & Evans pop song classic In the Year 2525, the duo sang of a year where “some machine is doing that for you.” Voice-over actors, welcome to the future. A company called Sonantic has created what it claims is the first artificial intelligence voice models that sound genuinely human and capable of expressing “a wide range of complex human emotions, from fear and sadness to joy and surprise.” Gaming producers like Obsidian Entertainment, Splash Damage and 4A Games are already on board with the technology, which is in use from development through post-production. The concept is similar to CGI for audio. Human, realistic voice tech is in its infancy, but along with this brave new frontier is a new opportunity for voiceover artists – banking their words for future use. WarnerMedia Execs Talk HBO Max’s “Swipey” Interface, Distribution Plan, State Of HBO – CES
In a panel appearance Tuesday at CES in Las Vegas, a pair of top WarnerMedia execs offered a few new insights into HBO Max , the company’s subscription streaming offering set to debut in May. Chief Technology Officer Jeremy Legg and EVP and GM of Direct-to-Consumer Andy Forssell painted a somewhat more detailed picture of the $15-a-month service than was offered last October at the company’s investor day. Legg said one of the goals of the new platform’s user experience will be to eliminate what he called the “endless scroll” of many existing streaming, through a mix of tech tools and human curation. Also, the aim is to target mobile devices with an interface that is more “swipey” and less grid-oriented than those of competitors. (“Is that a word?” he joked.)
