FX has handed a pilot order to half-hour The Bear , from Ramy executive producer/director Christopher Storer , Hiro Murai ’s ( Atlanta ) Super Frog, Joanna Calo ( Bojack Horseman, Undone ) and FX Productions. Storer will write and direct the pilot, described as a half-hour show about a young chef who returns to Chicago to run the family restaurant. Storer will executive produce with Murai ( Atlanta, Station Eleven ) and Nate Matteson ( Station Eleven ) of Super Frog, and Calo. Jeanie & Maggie Bacharach will serve as casting director. FX Productions is the studio. Storer was an executive producer and director on Ramy and produced the feature film Eighth Grade . Real estate developer Hackman Capital is planning to spend $1.25 billion to overhaul the nearly 70-year-old West Hollywood landmark CBS Television City including adding sound stages to supply the seemingly boundless demand. The world’s first purpose-built television studio was built in 1952 and has expanded in a patchwork over the years. Hackman acquired the iconic 25-acre property for $750 million in 2019. CBS’ The Late Late Show With James Corden , The Price Is Right and The Young and the Restless are recorded at Television City as well as Dancing With the Stars, American Idol and Real Time With Bill Maher. The project — which Hackman calls TVC 2050 — will add up to 1.3 million square feet of new space and is designed “to address the needs of a modern studio and promote innovation and sustainability in production and operations,” the firm said Friday. Hollywood action and comedy heavyweights Jason Statham and Kevin Hart are in talks to star in The Man From Toronto , which is being directed by The Expendables 3 and The Hitman’s Bodyguard helmer Patrick Hughes . The action-comedy is slated for release November 20 via Sony Pictures. Robbie Fox ( Playing for Keeps ) penned the script based on a story he originated with Jason Blumenthal.
