Critics Choice Awards Broadcast Draws Record Low Ratings On The CW
The Critics Choice Awards aired Sunday night without much fanfare. The CW ’s broadcast of the 28th annual ceremony drew just 900,000 viewers, according to early Nielsen numbers. That’s a slight dip from last year when the ceremony, which was simulcast across The CW and TNT, took home an audience of 1.1M. TNT didn’t simulcast the ceremony this year, so technically The CW’s audience is higher than it was a year ago even though overall viewership declined. The dip in audience falls in line with every other awards show telecast losing viewers over the past few years. On Tuesday, NBC’s broadcast of the Golden Globes brought in the lowest ratings ever for the ceremony. Over the course of the three-hour Critics Choice broadcast, A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once won Best Picture, Brendan Fraser won Best Actor for A24’s The Whale , and Cate Blanchett took Best Actress for Focus Features’ Tár . Aubrey Plaza Draws Season 48 Demo Rating High For ‘Saturday Night Live’
Aubrey Plaza and Sam Smith laughed up a ratings record for Season 48 of Saturday Night Live . The January 21 episode hosted by Plaza with Smith as musical guest received a 0.98 rating in the advertiser friendly 18-49 demographic, which is the highest of the season. It also drew 4.8 million total viewers, according to Live+Same Day Nielsen data. That’s the second largest audience of the season, trailing only Steve Martin/Martin Short episode’s 5.1 million viewers on December 10. The Plaza episode was up 30% in the demo and 13% in total viewers from the fourth quarter average. It is currently the top episode of the season across Peacock and NBC digital platforms. Prior to last weekend’s episode, Martin and Short’s joint hosting gig had also been the top rated of the season. It beat out the season’s previous top for both audience and ratings, Dave Chappelle ‘s controversial hosting stint in November. SNL has been hit or miss with viewers this season after a … [Read more...] about Aubrey Plaza Draws Season 48 Demo Rating High For ‘Saturday Night Live’
‘Uncoupled’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season
Netflix is not proceeding with a second season of Uncoupled , its comedy series from Emily in Paris creator Darren Star and Modern Family veteran Jeffrey Richman. The cancellation is not surprising. The series, starring Neil Patrick Harris, barely registered on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankings, making a single appearance at #6 following its July 29 release. (Half-hour series are at a disadvantage in the ratings system employed by Netflix which measures hours viewed.) Speculation that Uncoupled would not be continue at Netflix started late last year when sources indicated that there was an effort by series producer MTV Entertainment Studios to find a new home. The plan to move the series to a Paramount Global network, possibly Showtime, fall through, I hear. Meanwhile, Netflix remains in business with Star as his comedy Emily in Paris continues to deliver big audiences, with its current third season making the Netflix Top 10 in 93 countries. The series already has … [Read more...] about ‘Uncoupled’ Canceled By Netflix After One Season
Bill Maher On The Horror Show That Is The New House Of Representatives: “The Zombies Are In The Mall”
On the debut episode of Real Time’s 21st Season on Friday, Bill Maher had a lot of lost time to make up for and a lot of low-hanging fruit to grab after weeks of being away. “We’ve got a new Republican House,” Maher began. “It took them 15 ballots. I think the last time it happened was 1823 or something.” Then he put an exclamation point on it: “Fifteen ballots to elect Kevin McCarthy.” By contrast, he noted, “Oscar nominations come out Tuesday. I know Washington likes to look down their nose at Hollywood and I would agree: Awards shows are pointless virtue signaling. But we don’t need 15 ballots to get it done, ok? “Apparently it looks like they’re saying the big odds-on favorite to win [Best Picture] is this movie — I don’t know if you’ve seen it — Everything Everywhere All At Once ,” Maher said before waiting a beat to deliver the punch line. “It is the story of how George Santos lies.” Then he was off and running. “I can’t keep up with this f*cking guy,” … [Read more...] about Bill Maher On The Horror Show That Is The New House Of Representatives: “The Zombies Are In The Mall”
