Ellie was sitting front row Saturday at the new Las Vegas revue when her ex, Jackson Williams, pulled her onstage for one of his airborne stunts. You can probably figure it out from the video, but the stunt is called the "air f***." … [Read more...] about Ellie Goulding Rides Ex-BF in Midair for ‘Magic Mike Live’

Carlos: Yes. Jazz is very evolved music. With all respect, it’s not greasy kid stuff. I’ve been saying it a long time: jazz is an ocean and then you have a lake and then you have a bathtub. Some people are in the bathtub; they’re afraid to go to the lake. I hang around a deep lake, I don’t necessarily go to the ocean with Charlie Parker and Coltrane. If you take the names in the genre, you’re dealing with frequency, and the frequency that Cindy and I listen to is the frequency of spiritual consciousness that moves the heart. … [Read more...] about Carlos Santana, Cindy Blackman Santana Cover John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’
“Surfin’ Bird” comes in during the aftermath of a battle, as the marines are passing a medevac helicopter. The scene reminded me of Dr. Strangelove, where the plane is being refueled in midair with that long, suggestive tube, and the music in the background is “Try a Little Tenderness.” Or the cosmic waltz in 2001, where the spacecraft is slowly cartwheeling through space in time to “The Blue Danube.” And now you have the chopper and the “Bird.”What I love about the music in that scene is that it suggests post combat euphoria – which you see in the marine’s face when he fires at the men running out of the building: he misses the first four, waits a beat, then hits the next two. “And all I do is check the screen/To see if you’re okay/You don’t answer when I phone/Guess you want to be left alone,” Britney sings. How many of us find ourselves in this very same position today? (Follow-up question: Did Britney invent “sliding into the DMs”?) Here we are, two decades later, still waiting for that response, even more so now that we are all hunkering down in separate locations. We can talk to our loved ones, as long as we’re six feet or more apart, but we can’t get any closer. Videos are being passed around on social media of kids visiting their sick grandparents outside windows, unable to hug them goodbye because of the COVID-19 pandemic. An email to your heart goes a long way, these days. … [Read more...] about Did Britney Spears See the Future With ‘E-Mail My Heart’?
Also, when I spoke with Bruce he said, “What are you doing with your life?” I said, “I’m hanging out with you.” He said, “You can’t hang out with me, I’m a rock star. After this tour I probably won’t see you again. I thought you said you wanted to have a family and do this and do that.” I said, “Yeah, I do.” He said, “Then you gotta make it happen.” I loved that. He didn’t have to do that. … [Read more...] about Rock’s Greatest Sidewoman on What Springsteen Taught Her, Why Billy Joel Is the Perfect Boss
