EXCLUSIVE : Byron Allen ’s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures has tapped screenwriter Evan Daugherty ( Divergent ) to pen the sci-fi action feature, The Ultimate Weapon . The film based on a story by Allen will be financed by AMGMP, with exec producers to include Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas and Matthew Signer. The Ultimate Weapon takes place in a version of the present day where World War II is not over. In fact, history has shown us that the Nazis were actually researching a weapon far greater than the atomic bomb, investing heavily in the ability to achieve time travel. Pic sees them use that ability to travel to the present to bring back technology that they can use in the past to win the war. Onyx Collective has landed a pair of documentaries including Questlove ’s upcoming Sly Stone film. The brand, which airs on Hulu, will air both Questlove’s Untitled Sly Stone documentary and Anthem , which follows composer Kris Bowers and music producer Dahi as they take on a musical journey across the U.S. experimenting to reimagine the National Anthem. Separately, the brand has struck an overall deal with Joseph Patel, who produced Oscar-winning doc Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised alongside Questlove. Questlove will direct the Stone doc about Stone, otherwise known as Sylvester Stewart, who was frontman of Sly and the Family Stone and known for pioneering funk music. New Line Cinema won a heated auction for Weapons , a film it will fast-track with the team behind the horror thriller Barbarian . Zach Cregger wrote the script and will direct, and he’ll produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces. “Zach proved with Barbarian that he can create a visceral theatrical experience for audiences and that he commands every tool in the filmmaker toolbelt,” said Richard Brener , president and chief creative officer at New Line Cinema. “We couldn’t be happier that he, Roy and Miri and J.D. and Rafi chose New Line to be the home of his next film, and hope it is the first of many to come.” Word is Universal, Netflix and Sony/TriStar were in the mix, but New Line won because of a guarantee of a theatrical release. TMZ.com Marvin Gaye III , son of Motown Icon Marvin Gaye , was arrested late Friday afternoon a day after he allegedly pointed a gun at his wife and cousin. TMZ broke the story ... cops surrounded the home and called for him to come out, but Gaye had already left in his Corvette. BACKGRID Sources connected to the matter tell TMZ, Gaye allegedly physically assaulted both women after an argument over a previous assault. Marvin and his wife have had ongoing issues for a while now. Backgrid Motown Legend Marvin Gaye's Son Under Investigation for Assault Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, Gaye came to the Sheriff's station the next day around 5:00 PM and turned himself in. Cops found an AK-47 and a Glock on the bus and charged all 6 with felony possession of an illegal weapon. Cops were on the hunt for a weapon that was used in a Northern California murder during a Wiz Khalifa concert a few days earlier ... a concert where Jeezy was the co-headliner.
