One's the speaker of the house, the other's a filmmaker-actress-activist and daughter of a Democratic politico. Amid the impeachment drama, they spoke Nov. 26 about powerful women, whether Hollywood activism helps or hurts and how to take down "whatever that is in the White House." Nancy Pelosi is the highest-ranking elected woman in the history of the American government. This is the fact that I keep repeating in my head as I wait on hold while her press secretary connects us for this interview. I am, suffice it to say, shitting myself. I have cleared the house of all children and loud adults, switched off any electronic device within a 500-foot radius and settled into the most reliably non-squeaky chair I can find, taking deep Lamaze breaths and trying not to jump out of the window. I have prepared enough questions to generate a multivolume biography for the speaker, who has served in Congress as representative to California in three districts (covering San Francisco) since … [Read more...] about Nancy Pelosi and Olivia Wilde: The Hollywood Reporter Conversation
The new Ghostbusters is dividing fans directly down the middle. Some are excited to see the franchise return, while others are horrified by the casting choices and director. What a lot of the hate boils down to is, longtime fanatics simply wanted to see the original cast return. Which became increasingly less viable once star Harold Ramis passed away and Bill Murray seemed adamant not to participate. It's unlikely that Bill Murray would have starred in a true sequel to the 1984 Ghostbusters. But he is showing up for a few scenes in the remake. So at least fans can appreciate that. But it almost didn't happen. Why did Bill Murray finally agree to sign on? Bill Murray spoke with Vulture about his participation in Sony's new all-female Ghostbusters remake. The movie is being directed by Paul Feig, and has been described as a complete reboot of the series, which spawned one sequel and an animated series back in the 1980s. The main cast of the new movie is made up of four Saturday Night … [Read more...] about Why Did Bill Murray Agree to Ghostbusters Reboot Cameo?
The reboot, remake whatever people are calling the new Ghostbusters film is a modern miracle. Not only because the new film is very good. It is miraculous that this movie got made at all. As some of you might remember, this thing was written off more times than a good tax shelter! However, it finally took visionary director Paul Feig and a cast of take no prisoner, comedic genius females (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones... with a solid assist from Chris Hemsworth), to bring this thing to fruition. Ultimately, what we have got is a fresh take on an original concept, that, if it were the only film in the series, would probably be even more special. The question I am sure many of you have is ages old: Is the new version better than the old one? Truthfully, no. The original Ghostbusters from 1984 still features some of the best comedy/physical performances that have ever been lensed for the silver screen. The cast of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, … [Read more...] about 5 Reasons Haters Were Wrong About the New Ghostbusters
For the past 25 years Dan Aykroyd, co-creator, writer and star of the original 1984 Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel Ghostbusters 2, has been trying to get the sequel Ghostbusters 3 off the ground. The script went through plenty of rewrites as Sony flailed at moving forward on the project. That all changed when it was finally announced director Paul Feig would be taking over the project. His Ghostbusters would be a true reboot with an all-female cast. None of the original characters would even exist in this new universe, and it promises to be much scarier than the original. Dan Aykroyd thinks that's grand. But the comedy legend also believes that a true Ghostbusters 3 may still happen sometime in the near future. Dan Aykroyd appeared on the Unmasked with Ron Bennington Sirius XM radio show, where he revealed that the new all-female Ghostbusters may be paving a way for a more conventional, true sequel. Which, if you're to believe the complaints that have flooded the internet, is what … [Read more...] about True Ghostbusters Sequel May Still Happen Says Aykroyd
The new Ghostbusters is officially a one and done deal. While there might be another movie sometime in the far away future, it definitely won't be starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Producer Dan Aykroyd doesn't blame them for the movie's ultimate failure, though. No. He places all the blame for this bomb squarely on director Paul Feig. Dan Aykroyd is actually quite mad at Paul Feig. And in a recent Sunday Brunch interview, the original creator of the series didn't hold back. He went on a mini-tirade that wasn't expected and left some shocked. After all, Aykroyd had championed this reboot all throughout production and during its promotional phase. One of the original Ghostbusters who starred in the 1984 classic, the comedian even came back for a cameo. And right off the bat he holds no ill will towards the newer movie's leading ladies. This is what he had to say about Paul Feig, whom he doesn't outright name, and why Ghostbusters: Answer the Call … [Read more...] about Dan Aykroyd Tears Into Ghostbusters Remake Director for Hurting the Franchise
