Olivia Rodrigo ’s “Drivers License” rebounded to Number One on the Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs chart. The single led the ranking for most of January before being displaced by Cardi B ’s “Up” and then Lil Tjay and 6lack ’s “Calling My Phone.” As “Drivers License” returned to Number One, it amassed 18.7 million streams and more than 13,000 downloads. “Up” settled at Number Two (18.4 million streams, 9,100 downloads) while “Calling My Phone” fell to Number Three (21.3 million streams, 1,600 downloads). When makeup and hair designers Gigi Williams and Kimberly Spiteri were approached for Mank , they jumped at the chance to craft looks for an Old Hollywood drama, set in an era they both loved. “Hollywood in the ’30s and ’40s was something that we’ll never get to see again. That whole studio system, it’ll never be like that again,” Spiteri says. “So it’s a chance to get a glimpse at what it was like, which I find fascinating.” Directed by David Fincher , the drama is both a love letter to, and a critique of, Hollywood’s Golden Age, following alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman), as he finishes the script for Citizen Kane . It’s on projects like this, Spiteri says, that “what the hair and makeup department does as a craft matters. Whether you’re trying to emulate a character or just get the period right, you may not notice if it’s right. CBS has handed pilot orders to two untitled half-hour comedies: one inspired by TikTok star Sarah Cooper ’s book How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings , from writer Cindy Chupack and producers Nina Tassler and Denise Di Novi; and one based on professional bowler Tom Smallwood ’s life, from writer Mark Gross and producers David Hollander and Brian D’Arcy James. Both projects hail from CBS Studios. They join recently ordered hourlong pilot True Lies , based on the movie, as well as several 2020 pilots from last year that were pushed by the pandemic. The network also has a CSI revival and NCIS and FBI spinoffs in the works. The single-camera Cooper/Chupack comedy, which CBS landed last summer with a script commitment plus penalty, was co-written by Cooper and Chupack.
