SUNDAY UPDATE, writethru : Legendary Entertainment/Warner Bros’ Pokemon Detective Pikachu took the No. 1 spot at the international box office this weekend with a $103M start in 62 markets, just edging the third frame of Avengers: Endgame per today’s estimates. Along with the early release in Japan, Pikachu ‘s offshore cume is $112.4M through Sunday, and the global total with the strong domestic bow is $170.4M . By a hair of his lightning tail, Pikachu topped the third overseas session of Disney/Marvel’s Endgame which added $102.3M in 55 material markets (globally the MCU pic won the weekend with $165.4M to the little critter’s $161M). Last session, Endgame sailed past Titanic to become the No. 2 movie of all time both offshore and worldwide. Its cumes currently sit at $1.762B international and $2.486B global. Across just a handful of markets, figures we’re hearing put the early estimated cume at roughly $3.9M through Wednesday and including Australia and New Zealand’s Thursday launches. As Anthony reported, Thursday’s domestic previews of around $8M are looking at a franchise-best, per industry estimates. The Keanu Reeves fourquel is bowing in 71 international box office markets this weekend, the biggest day-and-date footprint for the franchise which has previously tended to release in staggered fashion. Aristomenis Tsirbas’s ‘ Timescape ’ Sells Worldwide Luminescence has unveiled a slew of deals for Canadian director Aristomenis Tsirbas’s adventure film Timescape . Newcomers Sofian Oleniuk and Lola Rossignol-Arts star as two youngsters who travel back in time to prehistoric times, where they encounter dinosaurs while trying to escape from an approaching asteroid. Luminescence took the film to the EFM where it secured deals to Australia (Eagle), France (Factoris), Hungary (ADS), Italy (Plaion), Japan (Nikkatsu), Korea (Yejilim), Latin America (Leda Films), CIS (,Nashe Kino), Middle East (Front Row), South Africa (Filmfinity) in Taiwan (Cola Films) and the UK (Dazzler). Emmy-nominated Korean actress and model Hoyeon , who made waves with Netflix’s Squid Game , is set to make her feature debut in director Na Hong-Jin ’s Korean thriller Hope , which we revealed earlier today . She joins Oscar winner Alicia Vikander and Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender. This is the first project from acclaimed Korean director Na since 2016 hit The Wailing , and it’ll mark Hoyeon’s first starring role in a Korean project since she made her screen debut in Squid Game .
