11 minutes ago The MonsterVerse picked back up late last month with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, following five years after Godzilla kicked off this franchise and two years after we wound the clock back to 1973 for Kong: Skull Island. Next up, Godzilla and King Kong will clash in the appropriately-named Godzilla vs. Kong, and while that movie is currently slated to come out in less than a year, apparently Warner Bros is now considering delaying it. Although Godzilla: King of the Monsters was the king of its opening weekend with a nearly $48 million domestic haul, that number was below early box office projections. Combined with the overall mixed-to-negative reception the sequel received, the MonsterVerse now finds itself on shakier ground. As a result, Warner Bros chairman Toby Emmerich says that in order for Godzilla vs. Kong to be the best product possible, the studio is willing to push it to a later date in 2020. In his words: Toby Emmerich also informed Deadline that … [Read more...] about Could Godzilla Vs Kong End Up Delayed?

We may have to wait a little longer than expected to see Godzilla Vs Kong, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters is likely, at least in part, to blame. The legendary kaiju is set to square off against King Kong in an epic battle next year, which will serve as the fourth entry in what has been dubbed by Warner Bros. as the MonsterVerse. It also includes Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island. However, it sounds like the studio is intent on making sure this latest entry delivers for moviegoers and, in turn, delivers at the box office. This comes from Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich. Under his watch, Warner Bros. has become very franchise-focused in order to better compete in the marketplace. The executive recently spoke about the future of the studio following last year's merger with AT&T, which resulted in a new media conglomerate by the name of WarnerMedia, at the Produced By Conference. At one point, the subject of next year's Godzilla vs. Kong came up. Here's what Emmerich had … [Read more...] about Godzilla Vs. Kong in Danger of Being Delayed
x Even though Godzilla: King of the Monsters has yet to hit theaters, its sequel Godzilla vs. Kong just finished principal photography and is already pencilled in for a 2020 release. According to Legendary CEO Joshua Grode, these films are just the beginning of what he foresees as an entire monster universe. “I hope [we make] a lot [of additional Godzilla movies]. I hope the gas tank is full,” he said. The studio clearly has a lot of faith that these star-studded action films are going to rake in money at the box office. It seems that Goode and his colleagues are picturing a cinematic universe that resembles the likes of Marvel. With the two aforementioned flicks already in the pipeline and several more already being discussed, it remains to be seen if Godzilla: King of the Monsters can live up to all of the hype. If not, then there isn’t much they can do but hope that the expensive follow-up somehow does better. King Ghidorah Is On The Attack In New Godzilla: King … [Read more...] about Godzilla Vs. Kong Could Be The Beginning Of A Whole Universe
We have good news for fans of giant monster action, as Godzilla Vs Kong is going to arrive quite a bit earlier than previously expected. Production kicked off on the highly-anticipated blockbuster in November and it will serve as the fourth entry in the MonsterVerse, which kicked off in 2014 with director Gareth Edwards' Godzilla. While it took some time to get the big guy back on screen again, we're going to be seeing plenty of him over the course of the next year, alongside quite a few classic monsters. Warner Bros. recently did some shuffling around with their release schedule and they've decided to move up Godzilla vs. Kong to March 13, 2020. Previously, they had the movie set within the early summer blockbuster season on May 22, 2020. However, Universal also recently did some reshuffling and they decided to put Fast and Furious 9 on that very same May 22 date. So, to avoid a possible blockbuster showdown that would likely hurt both sides, Warner Bros. decided to bump their epic … [Read more...] about Godzilla Vs. Kong Gets New Earlier Release Date
6 minutes ago The right release date can make or break a film. Getting a movie in front of audiences during the time that they want to see it can be the difference between box office success and failure. As a result, competition for dates can be fierce as studios have begun to stake out weekends further and further in advance in order to be sure that another studio doesn't get there first. Warner Bros. just set several new release dates for upcoming films, but they also changed some existing ones, including moving up Godzilla vs. Kong by nine weeks. Godzilla vs. Kong was originally set to open May 22, 2020. While the date originally had been left mostly alone, recently, it was announced that Fast and Furious 9 was being pushed back from its previous April 2020 date to May 22, making some significant potential competition for the giant monster movie. Whether Godzilla vs. Kong decided it didn't want to go head-to-head with "the family" or will just be ready to hit screens sooner … [Read more...] about Godzilla Vs.
