EXCLUSIVE : Canadian producer Antica Productions has partnered with media organization Postmedia Network to create podcasts and TV shows from journalism, setting debut project True Crime Byline. Postmedia’s aim is to turn its journalism into factual podcasts as well as looking at scripted and non-scripted TV and film further down the line. Kathleen Goldhar will oversee the partnership on behalf of Antica with Chris Gallipeau, Director of Audio and Video, and Andrea Hill, Director of Verticals, at Postmedia. Debut project True Crime Byline will be hosted and exec produced by Goldhar, who will invite journalists on to the show to speak about cases that have impacted the way they see the world. Andrew Mittman Inks Television & Film Deal With MGM As Head Of New 1.21 Banner
Veteran MGM executive Andrew Mittman is continuing his relationship with the company, signing an exclusive MGM/UA Television production and first-look MGM film deal as head of newly launched prodco 1.21 . Joining Mittman at 1.21 is MGM/UA Television alum Kai Dolbashian as the company’s Director of Development. “I’ve admired Andrew’s thoughtful, intelligent grasp of story and structure since the day we met, said Steve Stark, President of MGM/UA Television. “We recruited him to join our executive team and then were quick to extend his deal when it came up for renewal this year. ‘See’: Jason Momoa’s Apple Drama Series To End With Season 3
Jason Momoa ’s Baba Voss has fought his last battle after Apple TV+ revealed that season three of See would be its last. The post-apocalyptic drama series will return for its third and final on August 26 and will be rolled out weekly. See is set in a brutal and primitive future, hundreds of years after humankind has lost the ability to see. In season three, almost a year has passed since Baba Voss (Momoa) defeated his nemesis brother Edo, played by Dave Bautista, and bid farewell to his family to live remotely in the forest. But when a Trivantian scientist develops a new and devastating form of sighted weaponry that threatens the future of humanity, Baba returns to Paya in order to protect his tribe once more. Fans of Mare of Easttown may not have to wait too much longer for another HBO limited series starring Kate Winslet : The two-time Emmy winner is set to star in and produce an adaptation of Hernan Diaz’s 2022 novel Trust . HBO acquired the recent bestseller from Riverhead Books in a competitive situation. The book is about a wealthy financier who is dissatisfied by a novel based on his life and his wife’s portrayal, so he asks a secretary to ghostwrite his memoir and set the record straight. The secretary, however, grows uncomfortably aware that he is rewriting history—and his wife’s place in it. Amazon Prime Video Rolling Out ‘Watch Party’ Social Viewing On Laptops
Amazon Prime Video is matching moves by streaming rivals by rolling out Watch Party , a new feature allowing simultaneous viewing of film or TV titles up to 100 Prime subscribers. The feature, available for Prime members in the U.S. at no cost, started to slowly roll out Monday on laptops only. Apple’s Safari browser will not support the the native social viewing tool. It is unclear when — or if — it will arrive on other platforms beyond laptops, like gaming consoles, connected-TV devices or smart TVs. Hulu said in May it is testing a feature it also calls Watch Party on its ad-free tier. Many Netflix users have spent time in recent months using the “Netflix Party” extension for Chrome web browsers. Broadway Cast Announced For Tom Stoppard’s ‘Leopoldstadt’
Most of the 38-member cast of the upcoming Broadway production of Tom Stoppard ’s Olivier Award-winning Leopoldstadt was announced today, with four members of the original West End company making the move and newcomers to the show set to include Caissie Levy, Brandon Uranowitz, Seth Numrich and David Krumholtz. Twenty-three of the cast members announced today will be making their Broadway debuts with Leopoldstadt, according to producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Roy Furman, and Lorne Michaels. Patrick Marber, who directed the West End staging, will direct for Broadway as well. Leopoldstadt ’s limited Broadway engagement will begin previews Wednesday, September 14, with an official opening on Sunday, October 2, at the Longacre Theatre. Set in Vienna, Leopoldstadt begins in the last days of 1899 and follows one extended family well into the 20th Century.
