WGA members have voted unanimously to ratify a new contract with public broadcasting stations WGBH Boston and WNET New York. The pact also covers guild members employed at KCET Los Angeles, though it did not take part in the negotiations, and at numerous production companies that produce shows for WGBH and WNET. The new deal increases minimum pay rates, which are also the basis for residuals payments, by 2% retroactive to July 1, 2014, and 2.5% on July 1, 2015. The companies also have agreed to contribute an additional 0.5% to the Producer-Writers Guild of America Pension Plan. In a statement, the WGA said it represents “the people who write some of the best-known and most compelling programs broadcast on public television, including Frontline , American Experience , Nova and American Masters . EXCLUSIVE: Following a competitive bidding war, Warner Bros. TV has landed the Mac Smullen spec pilot Souvenir, Alaska . Carly Wray will exec produce and oversee the development while Lee Toland Krieger will exec produce and direct the pilot (both have overall deals with WBTV ). WBTV had no comment on the project. Sources say four other networks were chasing the pilot before WBTV put in the winning bid and while plot details are being kept under wraps, sources close to the pilot describe it as a cross between a Stephen King and Michael Crichton story. Edinburgh TV Festival has unveiled Channel 4 strategy boss Kiran Nataraja as its 2023 Advisory Chair. Nataraja, who is the broadcaster’s Director of Content Strategy and Planning, will oversee panel sessions and keynotes for the annual festival that has been extended to four days this year. It will run from August 22 to 25 and theme is The Passion and The Power of TV. Guild Official: Merging SAG And AFTRA TV Deals Key Goal Of Ongoing Contract Talks
Negotiators for a new SAG-AFTRA film and TV contract have wrapped their second week of bargaining with six weeks to go before the current pact expires and no sign of an early deal.
