HBO Max ’s cancellation of voguing competition series Legendary has not gone down well in the LGBTQ+ community. GLAAD has slammed the move, which came last week as part of a swathe of cuts and cancelations at the embattled Warner Bros. Discovery streamer. The series was fronted by MC Dashaun Wesley with judges including Leiomy Maldonado, Jameela Jamil, Law Roach, Megan Thee Stallion and Keke Palmer and was one of the most inclusive non-scripted series on television. “ Legendary raised the bar for inclusivity on TV programming on so many different levels, especially when it comes to celebrating Black and queer culture,” GLAAD noted. “While Legendary is unfortunately just the latest LGBTQ-inclusive programming to get canceled by their network this year, the creative team and Scout Productions prioritized uplifting unheard talent and voices and we’re hopeful that these types of stories are able to be told again.” It was one of a number of inclusive … [Read more...] about GLAAD Slams HBO Max’s ‘Legendary’ Cancellation

Christopher ‘Kid’ Reid Approves of ‘House Party’ Reboot, LeBron James’ Vision
TMZ.com Sequels to beloved hip hop classics are typically frowned upon, but not the new "House Party" ... so says one of the OG film's stars Christopher 'Kid' Reid , and he's giving LeBron James props for keeping the brand strong. We caught up with Chris out in Santa Monica, where he joked about his cameo in the reboot being a bit on the "Where's Waldo?" side. That aside, Chris notes how LeBron -- whose SpringHill Company acquired the rights for "House Party" -- has always shown love to his iconic group Kid 'n Play. Back in 2009, LeBron and Rich Paul starred in a State Farm commercial based around RP's car getting burglarized, with the crooks leaving only a Kid 'n Play CD ... setting the stage for LeBron and the State Farm agent to do the group's iconic dance from the original film. And then in 2013, LBJ gave his sons Bronny and Bryce the trademarked Kid 'n Play haircuts shortly before they were basketball phenoms in their own right. … [Read more...] about Christopher ‘Kid’ Reid Approves of ‘House Party’ Reboot, LeBron James’ Vision

There Was a Little Part of David Crosby in All of Us, Whether We Knew It or Not
In my many years of seeing live music, few sights were as dispiriting as the first time I saw David Crosby up close. In the early Eighties, he played a solo show at New York’s Town Hall. Walking onstage, looking a little overweight, unkempt and shaggy in an untucked shirt and baggy pants, he plopped down on a wooden chair. His voice was a bit raspier than we’d heard on his records, and the blissed-out smiles and stage patter he was known for were MIA. At one point, he yawned and looked at his watch, as if he were prepping for a nap. In those way-pre-Internet days, no one knew what was happening with anyone. But when it was revealed a short while later that he was a serious drug addict, the performance made a sad amount of sense. So when Crosby died last week , at 81, the news was both shocking and not. One of rock’s legendary libertines, he’d packed several lifetimes’ worth of adventure and misadventure into those eight decades — including, not long after the show I saw, … [Read more...] about There Was a Little Part of David Crosby in All of Us, Whether We Knew It or Not
