If Abigail Disney had listened to her financial advisers growing up, the heiress would have concentrated on one thing above all else: getting even richer. The granddaughter of The Walt Disney Company co-founder Roy O. Disney says of those early money managers, “They were really lovely, wonderful, nice people who had known me since I was a child… and they taught me some things that it took me a long time to break open and really unpack. Nobody said this out loud—this was just implied—but if you end your life without more than you started with, then you’ve somehow failed. And beyond that, your children should be better off than you were.” But with her, the imperative to compile wealth on top of wealth didn’t take. “I think that’s an appropriate thing, maybe in the middle class or the working class,” she notes. “But I started already with more than I need. Why would I want more or need more?” The social activist, philanthropist and documentary filmmaker has become a … [Read more...] about Abigail Disney Fearlessly Challenges Fellow One-Percenters On Distribution of Wealth — Deadline Disruptors

EODM’s Jesse Hughes Apologizes After March For Our Lives Tirade
Eagles of Death Metal ’s Jesse Hughes apologized to “the youth of America” on Saturday for criticizing the March for Our Lives protest . The apology came five days after Hughes labeled the surviving students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting as “disgusting vile abusers of the dead.” “Recently I made some posts on my Instagram that did not communicate how I feel about a variety of topics,” Hughes said in his video apology on Instagram . “What I intended to be a statement about the hijacking by any side of the aisle of the beautiful agenda of a movement of our nation’s youth came off seeming like a mean-spirited and personal attack and slight of the youth themselves.” Hughes added, “I wanna be clear, I never intended for that to happen. I was not attempting to impugn the youth of America and this beautiful thing that they accomplished. I truly am sorry, I did not mean to hurt anyone or cause any harm.” In Hughes’ since-deleted Instagram post following the … [Read more...] about EODM’s Jesse Hughes Apologizes After March For Our Lives Tirade
Kathleen Kennedy Reveals The Lesson Learned In Her ‘Star Wars’ Filmmaking Experiences
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has been around Hollywood a long time. But she’s still learning. Speaking to Vanity Fair’s Anthony Breznican , she admitted that the 2018 Solo film, about the younger years of the swashbuckling space cowboy Han Solo, taught her a lesson: don’t recast a core role. Kennedy took over Lucasfilm in 2012 with a goal to inject new energy into the Star Wars franchise. Solo was one such attempt, with Alden Ehrenreich in the iconic Han Solo role pioneered by Harrison Ford. The film made less at the box office than any other live-action Star Wars movie. “There should be moments along the way when you learn things,” says Kennedy. “Now it does seem so abundantly clear that we can’t do that.” The success of the slate of Star Wars television series may make it easier to break new ground, as new stars and storylines are introduced. “I hesitate to use the word trilogies anymore, because Star Wars is much … [Read more...] about Kathleen Kennedy Reveals The Lesson Learned In Her ‘Star Wars’ Filmmaking Experiences
‘The Simpsons’ Rips Fox News, Tucker Carlson And Facebook With Help From Hugh Jackman & Robert Reich In Musical Season Finale
Just days after Fox made a portfolio pitch to advertisers at its upfront showcasing Fox shows, including The Simpsons , and Fox News in the same breath, Matt Groenig & Co. shot back. Sunday night’s season finale of The Simpsons called out Fox News and Facebook for spreading misinformation, stoking fear and, well, a fondness for dictators. At one point, a Tucker Carlson -like character is shown saying, “Putin for president, next on Fox News.” At another point the lyrics, “Facebook feeds our fright. They convince us things were great when gas was cheap and men were white” are heard as a Mark Zuckerberg-like character presses a red button that reads “death of democracy.” There’s also an eight-minute song and dance in which a musically-gifted janitor — voiced by High Jackman — helps Bart tune in to the collapse of the U.S. middle class. “I’m saying you’ll definitely never get a job like your dad’s, and you’ll have a tough time finding something … [Read more...] about ‘The Simpsons’ Rips Fox News, Tucker Carlson And Facebook With Help From Hugh Jackman & Robert Reich In Musical Season Finale

A war of words has broken out between the filmmakers who have brought audiences two different versions, nearly two decades apart, of the real-life mystery behind The Staircase . French director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade’s 2004 Peabody Award-winning documentary told the story of the fortunate Peterson family who lived in a luxurious mansion in North Carolina, until Kathleen Peterson’s body was discovered at the foot of a staircase, and her husband Michael was tried for murder. More recently, Antonio Campos has adapted the same story into an HBO Max TV drama series starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette . De Lestrade and his team enjoyed privileged access to Michael Peterson and his family during the trial and years that followed, and Campos’s drama highlights this close connection, including a romantic relationship between Michael Peterson and the documentary’s editor Sophie Brunet.
