Eight-time Grammy winner Chris Stapleton will sing the national anthem at this year’s Super Bowl LVII, the NFL announced today as the organization released the pregame entertainment line-up. Twelve-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, songwriter and producer Babyface , a 12-time Grammy winner, will sing “America the Beautiful,” and Abbot Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph will perform the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Oscar-winning CODA actor Troy Kotsur will perform the national anthem in American Sign Language, with Colin Denny, a member of the Navajo Nation in Arizona, signing “America the Beautiful” and Justin Miles will signing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Also as part of the pregame show, the U.S. Navy will conduct a flyover of Glendale, Arizona’s State Farm Stadium during the national anthem to commemorate 50 years of women flying in the service. Suffice it to say that Avatar: The Way of Water commanded the Visual Effects Society ’s attention. James Cameron box office-smash sequel scored a record 14 nominations for the 2023 VES Awards , which were announced today. Helped by three noms in the Emerging Technology category, Disney’s The Way of Water topped the single-year noms haul by Disney+’s The Mandalorian in 2021. It also shattered the old high-water mark for films, set by — no big surprise here — the original Avatar, which amassed 11 noms in 2010. Peter Luo’s Stars Collective, Sundance Institute Partner On New Award To Fund Metaverse Projects; First Three Winners Announced
EXCLUSIVE : The Sundance Institute and Peter Luo ’s Stars Collective ( Crazy Rich Asians, Midway, Marshall, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark ) have partnered on the new Imagination Award that grants $25,000 each to three metaverse -based projects that show innovation “in a rapidly evolving mediascape.” Candidates were submitted to the Sundance Film Festival ’s New Frontier Program with winners were selected by fest programmers and reps of Stars Collective, a talent incubator. The award extends a Sundance-Stars Collective partnership from 2020 that launched the Granting Fund to support diverse filmmakers from historically marginalized communities.
