Camille Cosby has spoken publicly for the first time since her husband Bill Cosby was found guilty of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004 – calling it “mob justice”. Camille Cosby, who has been married to The Cosby Show star since 1964, has gone after the Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, the media and Cosby’s accusers in a statement that alludes to racial injustice. “The overall media, with their frenzied, relentless demonization of him and unquestioning acceptance of accusers’ allegations without any attendant proof, have superseded the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which guarantee due process and equal protection, and thereby eliminated the possibility of a fair trial and unbiased jury. Bill Cosby was labelled as guilty because the media and accusers said so,” she said. This comes after a jury of seven men and five women returned guilty verdicts last week on three counts of aggravated … [Read more...] about Camille Cosby Calls Bill Cosby’s Guilty Charge “Mob Justice” In Startling Statement

Broadway Box Office & Ticket Prices Slip As Productions Continue Wintertime Discounts; ‘Phantom’ Top Earner Again
Discounts, winter promotions, benefit performances and the absence from the roster of now-closed solid earner The Piano Lesson added up to a slide in Broadway box office for the week ending Feb. 5, down about 9% from the previous week to $23,518,702. Total attendance was down only 5% through (to 195,520), with the smaller average ticket price ($120.29 compared to the previous week’s $124.43) biting into receipts. Nineteen of the 22 shows on the week’s roster reported box office drops, though most shows filled up more than 90% of their seats. Topping the list once again was The Phantom of the Opera, drawing ever closer to its April 16 closing date after 35 years on Broadway. Last-chancers are filling the Majestic, driving last week’s box office tally to $2,616,850, outpacing the runners-up Funny Girl ($1,801,068) and Hamilton ($1,695,202) by a noticeable margin. ( Hamilton ‘s Wednesday matinee was a special performance for students.) Filling fewer than the 90% … [Read more...] about Broadway Box Office & Ticket Prices Slip As Productions Continue Wintertime Discounts; ‘Phantom’ Top Earner Again
MLW Founder Court Bauer On His New Partnership With Reelz And His Lawsuit Against WWE: “It’s A Ruthless Business”
Almost two years ago, Major League Wrestling founder Court Bauer had quite literally buried his face in the sand after learning that Tubi had walked away from their deal to broadcast his sporting events. “I was on vacation and I was just shell shocked,” Bauer recalls to Deadline. “We took the family to the beach and I just face-planted into the sand. For two solid days, I was like a computer rebooting. You go through the dance of media rights deals. There are a lot of wrinkles along the way and bumps on the road. So to go through that and then say, ‘we got to start all over again?’ It’s like you’re almost to the top of the summit and then you fall down.” But Bauer got back up and is now ready to start the biggest chapter yet in his pro wrestling career: starting tonight, the MLW will make its debut on Reelz , its biggest platform yet since forming in 2002. But he’s not about to forgive and forget about what happened with Tubi: the discovery period is expected to begin … [Read more...] about MLW Founder Court Bauer On His New Partnership With Reelz And His Lawsuit Against WWE: “It’s A Ruthless Business”

Peter Bart: Academy Pushed The Envelope Too Far, Scratches Oscar Popularity Contest
Having been a member of the Academy for several decades, I find myself suddenly embarrassed to admit it. The Academy made a grand, if puzzling, announcement last month, but now has decided to disavow it. Its board of governors, having watched Academy CEO Dawn Hudson crawl out on a limb, at this week’s board meeting decided to saw it off. The issue, of course, focuses on the Academy’s decision to award a new Oscar to this year’s “most popular” film — this in addition to its regular Oscar winner. Upon reading this announcement, all of us quickly inquired about the criteria for “popular.” The Academy has an “awards” committee to make exactly those decisions. Guess what: The committee forgot to do it. So did the governors. This is doubly ironic in that, at the very first Oscar show in 1929, the award was divided between a popular movie, Wings , and an art movie, Sunrise . The governors apparently had figured it all out 90 years ago. This year seemed a natural moment … [Read more...] about Peter Bart: Academy Pushed The Envelope Too Far, Scratches Oscar Popularity Contest
