Today (March 2, 2021), as Tiger Shroff turns a year older, sister Krishna Shroff opens up about what kind of elder brother he is to her. While speaking to a leading daily, Krishna said that she is more protective of him, as she feels he is way too nice to people. She said, "He's my best friend. I'm definitely the more protective one because he's just way too nice. I feel blessed to have an older brother like him because he makes me believe that I can do and achieve anything. He's very motivating and supportive." However, Krishna said that being Tiger's sister is not easy. If you follow Krishna on Instagram, you must know that she is as enthusiast about fitness as Tiger. When asked if the War actor inspired her to focus more on fitness, Krishna said, "Of course! It's not easy keeping up, being Tiger Shroff's sister (laughs). He really sets the bar high and I'm highly competitive, so it's a good combination." ‘Tina’: Film Review | Berlin 2021
The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, who survived an abusive marriage to rebuild herself as a superstar solo artist, looks back over her life and career in this inspirational portrait for HBO. Toward the end of Tina , the revealing documentary tribute by Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin for HBO, Tina Turner is seen in an extended concert clip performing the Beatles' "Help" as a decelerated ballad — intimate, melancholy and full of feeling. It's the polar opposite of so many of her most iconic stage moments, either as an R&B human tornado or a growling rock 'n' roll lioness. But the takeaway from this uplifting look back over Turner's tumultuous life and five-decade career in music is that she got where she is not by relying on the help of others but through her own remarkable resilience and self-determination. In the #MeToo era, Turner's story is more relevant than ever, particularly because she spoke out about the ordeal of her marriage at a time when the majority of women in the public … [Read more...] about ‘Tina’: Film Review | Berlin 2021
Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield on Why Fiona Apple Is Her ‘Icon & Influence’
Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee recalls hearing Fiona Apple for the first time in a dance class. “We did a dance to the song ‘Paper Bag,’ and I remember immediately being like, ‘I’ve never heard anything like this,’ and immediately just clocked it,” she told Rolling Stone for our Icons & Influences video series. “I was like, ‘This person, Fiona Apple, is really interesting.’” “What I think is so special about her is there’s this stereotype of women’s emotions — the idea of the hysterical woman — and that has been weaponized against women forever from the beginning of time,” Crutchfield continued. “And she takes that idea and she turns it into this superpower. She takes this thing used as a negative against women and just flips it completely on its head and makes it powerful and very relatable”. Crutchfield’s favorite Apple album is The Idler Wheel but notes that 2020’s Fetch the Bolt Cutters is a huge achievement for the songwriter. “It was so cool … [Read more...] about Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield on Why Fiona Apple Is Her ‘Icon & Influence’
Why Sarah McBride Might Be the Most Inspiring Elected Official in America
It’s early January, and Sarah McBride is sitting at a desk in her parents’ house in Delaware. A “Sarah McBride for State Senate” yard sign is wedged between a bookshelf and the wall — already a relic from the election she won two months earlier. “It’s been a whirlwind,” she says, leaning forward and taking off her glasses to rub her eyes. And not just because it’s her first time holding public office: When she won her election for state senator of Delaware’s 1st District with an overwhelming 73 percent of the vote, she became the highest-ranking openly trans elected official in U.S. history. Even on a video call, it’s easy to imagine how she captured three-quarters of her constituents in November. At 30 years old, she’s already well into her second decade in politics. She was 13 when she tagged along on a campaign for the first time, for a friend of her dad’s who was running for Delaware insurance commissioner. At 17, she worked on Democrat Jack Markell’s bid to be governor, … [Read more...] about Why Sarah McBride Might Be the Most Inspiring Elected Official in America
‘Empire’ To End After Upcoming Season 6; Still “No Plans” For Jussie Smollett Return
The reign of Empire on Fox is coming to an end next year. Just two weeks after the Charlie Collier -run Fox Entertainment renewed Lee Daniels and Danny Strong’s hip hop drama for a sixth season and guided Jussie Smollett toward the exit door, it was announced Monday during Fox’s pre-upfront call that the self-described “groundbreaking cultural phenomenon” will be canceled once Season 6 is done next year. “We are turning the final season into a large TV event — we are trying to go out guns a-blazing,” Collier said on the call of Empire ‘s last season, which will be 20 episodes. “You allow fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve.” Questioned about the possibility that the legally challenged Smollett could return for the final season, Collier dodged and replied with language reminiscent of last month’s press release. “There’s an option to have Jussie in the series but we have no plans for that,” he said, noting that the writers room for Season 6 … [Read more...] about ‘Empire’ To End After Upcoming Season 6; Still “No Plans” For Jussie Smollett Return
