‘Million Dollar Listing’ Star Josh Altman Blasts L.A.’s New Mansion Tax

March 16, 2023 by www.tmz.com

TMZ.com L.A.'s new "mansion tax" is about to go into effect, forcing sellers to cough up a ton of cash if their property sells for at least $5 million ... and Josh Altman is one of many real estate agents who think it's absurd. Josh joined us Thursday on "TMZ Live," and immediately dumped on measure ULA ... calling it "the dumbest tax ever put through in the history of Los Angeles." Passed on the ballot last November, it slaps a 4 percent tax on homes selling for $5 mil and up, and 5.5 percent on those selling above $10M. Josh points out the ridiculous ways agents would have to work around the taxes if they wanted to, including listing it for cheaper than its actual value ... just to dodge the additional tax. Gallery Launch Gallery The selling point to voters who supported the tax was the funds would go toward battling the homeless crisis in L.A. by developing more affordable housing -- it's projected to bring in $1B annually. Josh tells us … [Read more...] about ‘Million Dollar Listing’ Star Josh Altman Blasts L.A.’s New Mansion Tax

‘Parade’ Broadway Review: Ben Platt & Micaela Diamond Lead Exceptional March Through History

March 16, 2023 by deadline.com

Neo-nazis tend to be a noisy bunch, and it takes an extraordinary and confident work of art to drown out their loud, ugly racket. Parade , opening tonight on Broadway at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, is that work of art. With a serendipitous advertising slogan – “This Is Not Over Yet” – borrowed from one of the most powerful songs from a lovely score, the revival of 1998’s Parade arrives just when it’s needed most, providing an eloquent smackdown response to the rise in antisemitism made all too clear by the hate group protesting outside the show’s first preview (they haven’t been back). With a cast as fine as it is large, led by Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond – two of the best singers currently on Broadway – Parade , set in 1913 Georgia, scores its topical points with all the artistry and theatrical know-how to meet and exceed its noble intensions. Parade is as commanding as any musical revival to hit Broadway in years. Directed by Michael Arden, … [Read more...] about ‘Parade’ Broadway Review: Ben Platt & Micaela Diamond Lead Exceptional March Through History

Zachary Levi Says He’s Still Holding Out Hope On A ‘Chuck’ Movie

March 17, 2023 by deadline.com

Zachary Levi isn’t giving up on the movie followup to his NBC series Chuck , and he says creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak are on board. Levi starred in the spy dramedy from 2007 to 2012 as Chuck Bartowski, an average guy who was dragged into the world of the the CIA and NSA to take on dangerous criminals and other threats. He’s been campaigning for an expansion of the Chuck universe since the show ended, but he recently said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that it might actually be coming to fruition. “I’ve been trying to make a Chuck movie since before we even finished the show. I saw the writing on the wall, I saw a lot of the streaming stuff starting to pop up. I saw a lot of like, well, people are doing, you know, like, you know, Zach Braff, I think was crowdfunding. Oh, oh, no, no. Even before that, who was, uh, Veronica Mars , it crowdfunded. So I was like, clearly there’s an appetite for people wanting to see additions to the series that they, you … [Read more...] about Zachary Levi Says He’s Still Holding Out Hope On A ‘Chuck’ Movie

Courtney Love Blasts Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Exclusions In Scathing Op-Ed

March 17, 2023 by deadline.com

Unless the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame can find a way to be more inclusive, it can “go to hell in a handbag,” according to rocker Courtney Love . While there’s an annual debate over nominees and inductions, who is nominated and inducted is far from a silly matter. The Hall has a real economic impact on its chosen artists, Love claimed in a blistering op-ed in The Guardian . Love said the Hall’s voting process hasn’t done enough to honor some important figures in music. “So few women are being inducted into the Rock Hall, then the nominating committee is broken. If so few Black artists, so few women of colour, are being inducted, then the voting process needs to be overhauled.” She added, “Shame on HBO for propping up this farce.” While Love acknowledged that this year included more women nominees than ever before, the Hall still made such icons as Kate Bush cool their heels, waiting for a chance. Artists can be nominated 25 years after their first record release. … [Read more...] about Courtney Love Blasts Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Exclusions In Scathing Op-Ed
