CBS News anchor Margaret Brennan got Donald Trump to reverse himself in record time when Trump trashed the Bush administration over Iraq intelligence, only to profess trust, seconds later, in current National Security Advisor John Bolton, a Bush administration official who was a strong supporter of the Iraq War. On Sunday’s edition of Face the Nation, Brennan played clips from her pre-Super Bowl interview of Trump, including an exchange in which she deftly called Trump out for trashing his own intelligence community by comparing them to the administration of former President George W. Bush. After an extended back-and-forth over Trump’s disagreements with his own intelligence community, Brennan tried to button up a key fact. “I want to move on here but I should say your intel chiefs do say Iran’s abiding by that nuclear deal,” Brennan said. “I know you think it’s a bad deal, but..” “I disagree with them,” Trump said. … [Read more...] about Margaret Brennan Busts Trump After He Trashes Bush Admin: Do You Trust John Bolton?

A fresh New York Times report details the incoherent statements from President Donald Trump and his National Security Adviser John Bolton on plans to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria — and contains an interesting detail buried in the kicker. Trump, who is apparently not very close to John Bolton, has repeatedly referred to him as “Mike Bolton” when speaking to aides. Mike John Bolton was, according to the Times, just as surprised as everyone else by Trump’s abrupt announcement that the U.S. would be pulling out its 2,000 troops from Syria. After all, in September he declared the troops would remain in the war-torn country, where they are working with local fighters to combat ISIS. But the Times reports that Bolton is in part to blame for the president’s foreign policy flailing: As the president’s national security adviser, Mr. Bolton has largely eliminated the internal policy debates that could have fleshed out the troop decision with timetables, … [Read more...] about Trump Reportedly Keeps Calling His National Security Advisor John Bolton ‘Mike’
Just last month, President Donald Trump abruptly announced the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria, enraging lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and prompting the resignation of his Defense Secretary James Mattis. Now, just a few weeks later, the administration appears to be backpedalling on that announcement. According to the Associated Press, Trump national security adviser John Bolton told reporters Sunday that there are two conditions for a military withdrawal of the 2,000 U.S. troops from Syria: defeating the remnants of ISIS and protecting the Kurdish fighters who have fought the terrorist group alongside the U.S. (This is curious, because when Trump announced the Syria withdrawal, he repeatedly declared that ISIS was “defeated”.) Back to Bolton. Per AP, he spoke to reporters in Jerusalem: “There are objectives that we want to accomplish that condition the withdrawal… The timetable flows from the policy decisions that we need to implement.” NBC … [Read more...] about BREAKING: John Bolton Now Says There Are ‘Conditions’ For Withdrawal of Troops From Syria
