Top Gun : Maverick ’s Cannes Film Festival premiere marks another high point in the movie star career of Tom Cruise . The actor turns 60 on July 3, and unlike most leading men of that age who become quicker to call for the stunt double, Cruise shows little evidence of slowing down after 43 films. If anything, his Mission: Impossible stunts seem to grow more ambitiously dangerous, not to mention the fact that he and director Doug Liman will become the first to actually shoot a space film in space for real—aboard one of Elon Musk’s SpaceX crafts with the cooperation of NASA. So how does Cruise continue to carve such a path? “I’ve gotten to work with a number of actors who’ve had great success and long careers, Tom being at the top of the heap,” says Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. “He approaches every day with the enthusiasm that it’s his first movie, and at the same time puts the effort into it like it’s his last movie. That’s a good attitude … [Read more...] about What Makes Tom Cruise’s Star Shine So Brightly? Directors Share Their Insights – Cannes Disruptors

The Frenchman’s move to LA a decade ago was in part driven by a desire for more anonymity. In his home country, Sy is a superstar. In America, picking his kids up from school didn’t need to be a drama. “It’s still different being in LA,” he says, despite his growing fame. “Even if things have changed a bit, there’s still less attention here than it might have been in France. The film made an astonishing $426 million at the global box office and is still the biggest French film of all time. Disney CEO Bob Chapek Opens Upfront By Touting The Company As “The Most Powerful Force In The Industry”
Disney CEO Bob Chapek opened Disney’s upfront in New York by telling a crowd of several hundred advertisers that the company is “the most powerful force in the industry” and “the most enduring and beloved name in entertainment.” After a bumpy start to 2022, at least in terms of public perception, Disney has delivered positive results recently, reporting streaming gains and improved theme park revenue in the quarter ending in early April. The upfronts crowd has been anticipating the Disney presentation with particular relish since the news earlier this year that Disney+ is poised to add a cheaper, ad-supported tier. (Chapek’s remarks included a brief tease of that move.) “Today is a little bit like a homecoming because I started my career in advertising,” Chapek said. “Disney will be celebrating our 100th anniversary later this year, and that is an incredible milestone. I can’t help but think about this moment in the context of what this company has always been, what … [Read more...] about Disney CEO Bob Chapek Opens Upfront By Touting The Company As “The Most Powerful Force In The Industry”

Skydance Extends Paramount Deal Four Years: Jim Cameron & Tim Miller ‘Terminator’ On Boards
Despite vehement denials late last year that Skydance’s long relationship with Paramount Pictures would be extended, the company announced that it has in fact reupped its producing and co-financing relationship with the studio for another four years. This gives Paramount much needed cash to try and launch tent pole films and franchises, something it sorely needs. Pictures on the docket include Mission: Impossible, the Joseph Kosinski-Tom Cruise collaboration Top Gun , and the David Fincher-Brad Pitt sequel to World War Z. Skydance was already part of these pictures. Of note here is the formalization of news that Deadline broke last January , that the studio will re-launch of the Terminator franchise with Skydance. Ellison, who bought the rights from sister Megan Ellison (she acquired them out of bankruptcy years ago for $20 million) and mounted what was meant to be a resurrection of the franchise. The film fell flat, but the next movie will be a major event … [Read more...] about Skydance Extends Paramount Deal Four Years: Jim Cameron & Tim Miller ‘Terminator’ On Boards
