Hulu has opted to pass on Rodham , an alternative history drama series about Hillary Rodham Clinton that had been in development at the streamer since 2020. Studio 20th Television is shopping the project to other streamers, however, with Claire Danes and Dakota Fanning “creatively attached,” sources close to the project confirm to Deadline. The project, described as a provocative take on one of the most famous female American politicians of the past two decades, is based on the book by Curtis Sittenfeld. It comes from The Affair co-creator Sarah Treem, 20th TV and Warren Littlefield’s The Littlefield Company ( The Handmaid’s Tale) . Treem will write and executive produce, and James Ponsoldt will direct. It’s not clear what roles Danes and Fanning will play. Bleecker Street has snapped up U.S. rights to Alice Troughton’s feature directorial debut The Tutor , which will star Oscar nominees Richard E. Grant and Julie Delpy and Daryl McCormack. Bleecker Street is planning a 2023 release in cinemas. The project, billed as a high-class thriller examining social status, follows an aspiring young author, hungry for recognition and success, who takes a tutoring position at a legendary writer’s estate. Soon the young tutor realizes he is engulfed in his hero’s complicated family legacy which holds a deadly past and threatens his own future. Alex MacKeith penned the screenplay. Poison Chef’s Camille Gatin, Jeva Films’ Cassandra Sigsgaard, Egoli Tossell Pictures’ Judy Tossell and Constellation Productions’ Fabien Westerhoff are producing the film. It’s set to open against Universal’s Firestarter starring Zac Efron, IFC Films’ horror-thriller The Innocents and Greenwich Entertainment’s documentary, Mau . The film watches as two seemingly polar-opposite families are assigned to share the same cabin for a hilariously eventful week at church camp. The title is based on a story by Middleditch, Keith Aberdein and Sonia Whiteman with Bennett and Whiteman adapting the screenplay. Story is set in New Zealand in 1981 when the arrival of the South African rugby team sets off nationwide protests against apartheid and racism. Deadline revealed that the Brit is leaving the late-night slot after 7 years next summer but the network has no plans just to pick another host to slot into the time period.
