EXCLUSIVE : The first new A24 project to emerge since the studio’s record-breaking Oscar haul last week is international TV series Young Mungo , which is being adapted by Scottish-American author Douglas Stuart from his acclaimed novel. The series, about the dangerous first love of two working class men in Glasgow, is being shepherded by A24’s international heads Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett, and marks a coup for the pair given the stellar reviews and buzz around its author. Published last year, Young Mungo is the second novel from Stuart after Booker prize-winner Shuggie Bain , which Euphoria and Everything Everywhere All At Once producer A24 is currently making into a series with the BBC. ‘Room’ Stars Adrienne Warren & Ephraim Sykes Speak Out On Broadway Show’s Abrupt Withdrawal From Spring Lineup
Broadway ’s Room stars Adrienne Warren and Ephraim Sykes , along with choreographer Galen Hooks, are speaking out on the bizarre, last-minute “indefinite postponement” of the much anticipated spring production. “We do not know what happened,” says Warren, the Tina star who was to play the lead role in the Room stage adaptation that was to begin previews next month. “We have no idea. Rupert Murdoch On Getting Engaged Again: “I Knew This Would Be My Last. It Better Be.”
Rupert Murdoch is engaged — again. The 92-year-old billionaire announced, via an interview with the New York Post , that he will wed Ann Lesley Smith , the former San Francisco Police chaplain who is 26 years his junior. Murdoch divorced Jerry Hall, his fourth wife, last August. Speaking of his new love, he told the Post ‘s Cindy Adams: “I dreaded falling in love — but I knew this would be my last. It better be. I’m happy.” Murdoch said he nervously popped the question last week on St. Patrick’s Day in New York, adorning Smith’s finger with an Asscher-cut diamond engagement ring. They will marry in late summer. He told the Post that they met at his vineyard Moraga in Bel Air, CA. Lionsgate Lands Horror Spec ‘The Culling’ For ‘Shazam!’s David F. Sandberg To Direct
EXCLUSIVE : Lionsgate has acquired the Stephen Herman horror spec script The Culling for Shazam! helmer David F. Sandberg to direct. Sandberg & Lotta Losten will produce via their newly formed Mångata production banner, alongside Good Fear Content’s Chris Bender & Jake Weiner, with Scott Stoops exec producing. A troubled priest confines himself to a remote cabin in the middle of the woods where he attempts to make a last stand against the demon that terrorized his family when he was a child. Lionsgate’s Aaron Janus is overseeing the project along with Aaron Edmonds. Swedish-born Sandberg is coming off Shazam!, which grossed over $366M with Zachary Levi in the title role. Michaela Coel And Anne Hathaway To Star In Pop Music Epic ‘Mother Mary’ For David Lowery And A24
EXCLUSIVE: A24 is reuniting with its Green Knight director David Lowery on his next film Mother Mary and set Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel to star. Lowery is directing from a script he penned. The film will be an epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel). Lowery, Toby Halbrooks, and James M. Johnston will produce alongside Jeanie Igoe of Homebird Productions and Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo and Jonathan Saubach of Cologne-based augenschein Filmproduktion. Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX will write and produce original songs for the film, with an original score composed by Daniel Hart.
