The film, first announced in 2019, is based on Jeff Hobbs’ best-selling biography The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League . It follows Robert Peace, who made his way to Yale on scholarship after growing up in a crime-ridden section of Newark, New Jersey. He’d major during his time there in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, working in a lab researching cancer and infectious diseases, while at the same time making six figures from the sale of marijuana. The film scripted by J.D. Zeik ( Ronin ) will watch as Roselli looks back on a career, in which he was forever the underdog in comparison to contemporary Frank Sinatra, among others. Whatever the reason, Reboot — Steve Levitan ’s show-within-a-show comedy that starred Keegan-Michael Key , Johnny Knoxville and Judy Greer — will not see a second season at the streamer. The single-camera comedy followed execs at Hulu (yes, Hulu) who decide to reboot a family comedy from the 2000s. Actors from the original return to reprise their roles for the reboot, and “deal with their unresolved issues in today’s fast-changing world,” according to the original logline. Reboot was Levitan’s first creation since his Emmy-winning comedy Modern Family with Christopher Lloyd wrapped in 2020. Paramount Television is pulling another marquee title from Paramount’s movie library for a series adaptation with top original auspices attached. The company is developing a television adaptation of the film noir classic, American Gigolo, with Jerry Bruckheimer , who was a producer of the 1980 movie with Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton, executive producing. The film’s director and writer, Paul Schrader, will serve as an executive consultant. “With its signature noir aesthetic, American Gigolo has remained a deeply entertaining, psychological thriller and I’m thrilled to partner with (Paramount’s) Brad (Grey) and Amy (Powell) on remaking it into a television series,” said Bruckheimer. The creators of series including Tuca & Bertie and Gordita Chronicles , which both were axed at Warner Bros Discovery, have taken the conglomerate to task for the recent moves. Those joining the WGA West in blasting the WBD on Monday include Claudia Forestieri, creator and executive producer of Gordita Chronicles ; Lisa Hanawalt, creator and executive producer of Tuca & Bertie ; and Moisés Zamora, creator and executive producer of Whistleblower , a project in development at HBO Max.
