Better Call Saul has ended. A review of the series finale, “Saul Gone,” coming up just as soon as I build a time machine… “Where do I see it ending? With me on top, like always.” —Saul James Morgan McGill and Walter White join forces one final time midway through “Saul Gone.” It is a flashback to the two of them hiding out in the vacuum store’s basement circa the “Granite State” episode of Breaking Bad , each of them waiting for Ed to secret them away to their new lives under assumed identities. Their conversation is a reminder of Walt’s arrogance, as well as his contempt for Saul: When Saul suggests he could have sued Gray Matter on Walt’s behalf, Walt dismisses him as the last attorney he ever would have employed for such a task. He would laugh in disbelief if you were to tell him that the man he knows as Saul Goodman once kicked off a successful multimillion-dollar class action suit against another corporation on behalf of defenseless senior citizens. Mostly, … [Read more...] about ‘Better Call Saul’ Series Finale Recap: Slippin’ Jimmy Vs. Saul Goodman

How Does One Song Have 24 Writers?… and Other ‘Renaissance’ Controversies
Long ago, Beyoncé decided to let her music speak for herself. “I’m grateful I have the ability to choose what I want to share,” she told Harper’s Bazaar last year, in a brief, extremely rare interview that reads as if it may have been conducted via e-mail. “One day I decided I wanted to be like Sade and Prince. I wanted the focus to be on my music, because if my art isn’t strong enough or meaningful enough to keep people interested and inspired, then I’m in the wrong business. My music, my films, my art, my message – that should be enough.” Accordingly, Beyoncé has hardly said a word about her excellent new album Renaissance , which hasn’t prevented its lead single, “Break My Soul,” from becoming her first Number One hit in 14 years. It also hasn’t kept the album from dominating the musical discourse for weeks, both with exegeses of its thicket of references to the history of dance music and news stories generated by the twists and turns of a seemingly … [Read more...] about How Does One Song Have 24 Writers?… and Other ‘Renaissance’ Controversies

The Most Memorable Moments From ‘Better Call Saul’
Better Call Saul ended last night with a wonderful episode that brought the entire Breaking Bad universe to a satisfying conclusion. We recapped the finale and spoke with Saul co-creator Peter Gould , but we’re not ready to say goodbye to the classic AMC drama just yet. So here are 10 moments from across the series’ run that remind us why a spinoff no one — including Gould and co-creator Vince Gilligan — seemed to think was a good idea at the start turned out to be as beloved in its own way as the adventures of Walt and Jesse. “I broke my boy!” (From Season One, Episode Six: “Five-O”) Saul Season One is filled with a lot of trial and error. It’s always watchable because of the sheer craft level of Gould, Gilligan, and company, but with more of a meandering air to it than the deliberate-but-focused quality that would typify later seasons (and Breaking Bad , for that matter), as the creative team gradually realized that they liked Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill and … [Read more...] about The Most Memorable Moments From ‘Better Call Saul’

Why Web3, When Used for Good, Can Supercharge Authenticity
Opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of Rolling Stone editors or publishers. From LeBron James highlight reels trading for nearly a quarter million dollars , to the birth of meme-coin millionaires, crypto’s latest bull run invariably inspired a generation of believers. There was a feeling of defiance that inspired what felt like a perpetual bull run, the pieces of which now provide ample cannon-fodder for the cynics. The recent correction exposed the gaping regulatory and infrastructural holes that have served as breeding grounds for nefarious activity. Cryptocurrencies, and by extension Web3, are synonymous with scam culture. This is disappointing when considering that recent market turmoil was caused by the very same issues that plague our centralized financial system. In fact, decentralized finance (DeFi) held up pretty well. At inception, Web3 and its associated technologies were designed to involve community and dismantle the … [Read more...] about Why Web3, When Used for Good, Can Supercharge Authenticity
