We’re not even talking about movies that haven’t aged well because the technology is outdated. Yeah, The Net, starring Sandra Bullock is very dated, but it’s also very of its time. You can’t say Goldfinger is a bad movie because James Bond drives an Aston-Martin DB5 instead of a DB9, just like you can’t blame The Dude for carrying around a giant portable phone the size of a suitcase in The Big Lebowski. Where things get very dicey, very quickly, is when a lot of the humor and even the themes that directors and writers (and audiences) were perfectly comfortable with then, makes us cringe today and some of it makes us downright sick to our stomachs. The movies may still be fine examples of good filmmaking, but the … [Read more...] about 8 Classic ‘90s Movies That Didn’t Age Well

March and April also usher in the beginning of the end for two HBO giants. The snappily written, politics-zinging “Veep,” led by its master of comic timing, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, bids farewell with seven episodes, starting March 31. There’s also the dreaded exit of what may be the most majestic drama on television. “Game of Thrones” — its dungeons and dragons, bitter winters and dreaded White Walkers, along … [Read more...] about Here are spring TV’s most promising new shows
SHARON OSBOURNE likes to turn everything into a battle – even making a movie of her life story. The controlling manager wants – surprise, surprise – full control over the project, no doubt to whitewash the more unsavoury elements of her early years with Ozzy Osbourne. So now she’s pushing ahead with her own rival PR-driven project and doing all she can to discredit the other movie. Universal Studios is turning the rival screenplay into a big-budget film, which means that in 2020 cinema-goers could be “treated” to two versions of Mrs O’s early days living with feared rock boss dad, Don Arden, who she has berated publicly for years. The axed X Factor judge claims she was working on her project – which would tell her life story up to the age of 25 – first. She has asked Danny Boyle to direct. Mrs O said this week: “Of course my husband takes part in the movie, somebody will play him, but mainly, it’s about my life … [Read more...] about Sharon Osbourne is pushing ahead with big-budget film of her life to rival and discredit other movie

Christmas is immaculate. Christmas is crystalline, perfect and brimming with goodwill. And Christmas is ripe for some cinema exploitation! Think this holiday is too sacred to be turned on its head, satirized and lobotomized? Think again. The holiday's strange folklore begs for it: flying reindeer, elves making toys in the North Pole, a certain gargantuan gentleman who breaks into your house, eats your cookies, downs your milk like a shot of whiskey and leaves mysterious gifts under your tree. Oh, and he has a list of who's been naughty or nice. Sure, that's normal. Then there's the holiday itself: It's the time of year when we're supposed to be joyful and generous, buying gifts for loved ones even though doing so means getting mauled at the malls like something out of Dawn of the Dead — long lines, traffic, money spent quicker than Ben Affleck at a poker table and the high-octane holiday music pounding into our skulls like a jackhammer. I'm sorry but your white Christmas needs … [Read more...] about Christmas Cult: A Guide to Movies Full of Merriment and Mayhem
