Nick Baumgardner Detroit Free Press Published 7:15 PM EDT Oct 20, 2018 EAST LANSING — Prior to kickoff of Michigan football's 21-7 win at Michigan State, U-M linebacker Devin Bush Jr. and a few teammates were on the field while the Spartans were doing their weekly pregame walk across the stadium grass. The U-M players didn't move. MSU's players didn't move. Words were exchanged. Bush Jr. tore up MSU's midfield logo with his cleats. Both sides disagree over who was exactly at fault for what. Michigan claimed Michigan State was 10 minutes late exiting the tunnel for its weekly walk, something that happens prior to every game, and believed it was OK to take the field. Michigan's players saw MSU walking down the tunnel prior to kick and chose not to move. MSU quarterback Brian Lewerke told reporters after the game that he was told an MSU staffer asked Michigan's players to move aside. U-M's players disagreed. What ensued was a minor dust-up, most especially with a few Spartans and U-M linebacker Devin Bush, who tried to tear up the Spartan logo at midfield after the confrontation. More: Trick TD is lone highlight for Michigan State vs. U-M In their postgame news conference, both U-M coach Jim Harbaugh and MSU coach Mark Dantonio gave their accounts of what happened. "I just heard about it, I didn't see it," Harbaugh said after his team's victory. "I heard they clotheslined a few of our guys, they came out of their helmets. "Total bush league," Harbaugh continued. … [Read more...] about Jim Harbaugh: MSU ‘bush league’; Mark Dantonio: ‘That’s B.S.’
