Following in the footsteps of Cannes, which was forced to cancel its famous film festival in May but still went on to reveal what its schedule would have been anyway, the Telluride Film Festival on Monday released its own lineup. The films would have been presented over Labor Day weekend September 3-7, but the fest was canceled last month after trying to hang on for some version of its former self in light of the pandemic. Similar to what other fests have programmed such as Kate Winslet -starrer Ammonite, Idris Elba in Concrete Cowboys and director Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland starring Frances McDormand , the list is similar to the eclectic, film-centric nature of Telluride minus some of the starrier Oscar campaign-driven films that have put the fest on the must-stop list for Academy Award hopefuls for much of this century. The Pandemic Generation: How Organizations Are Supporting Youth and Tackling Social Justice Work
As an entrepreneur with deep roots in entertainment, retail, media strategy and technology, I have seen the immense social good that can be done when changemakers step up to shape the landscape of their communities. According to findings from Kantar Monitor via Marketing Dive, “68% of consumers expect brands to be clear about their values.” Millennials in particular, at 46%, expect brands to be brave, with 42% of Gen Z agreeing with these expectations. For better or worse, our value is tied to our values. In a year full of challenges to the status quo, ask yourself: What side of history will your business be on, and how will it be remembered? For nearly a year, America’s youth have been staring at their screens for virtual learning eight hours a day or more. These are the same screens where they watched this past year’s many abominations of justice carried out, from the murders of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Jacob Blake, which sparked protest across the world, to the … [Read more...] about The Pandemic Generation: How Organizations Are Supporting Youth and Tackling Social Justice Work

Color Of Change Chief Says Golden Globes Symbolize Hollywood’s Broken Promises On Diversity – Guest Column
Editor’s Note: Rashad Robinson is president of racial-justice organization Color of Change . Founded in 2005, it has more than 7 million members. Last year, it collaborated with actor and producer Michael B. Jordan to create #ChangeHollywood, an initiative that aims to offer tangible ways to invest in anti-racist content and authentic Black stories, invest in Black talent and reinvest police funds to support Black communities. In a guest column ahead of Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards , Robinson weighs in on the need for widespread industry change. This week we are reminded that Hollywood, despite its calls for diversity and social change, continues to reinforce systems that overlook Black people’s creative luminosity in favor of the status quo.
