Bill Murray has always maintained a connection to great literature. He referenced French existentialism as deranged groundskeeper Carl Spackler in “Caddyshack” when he stuffed a varmint hole full of explosives and said, “In the immortal words of Jean Paul Sartre, ‘Au revoir, gopher.’” As weatherman Phil Connors in “Groundhog Day,” he spoke of how when Anton Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope.But last night at the Orpheum theater he dug deeper and engaged with the classics in earnest. Of course, he sprinkled in a few winks and gags between the earnestness.
