Matthew McConaughey , who was born in Uvalde, Texas, seemed to call for stricter gun control laws without expressly saying so in a statement following yesterday’s mass shooting at an elementary school in his hometown. “Once again we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us,” McConaughey wrote in a statement shared on social media. “The true call to action now is for every American to take a longer and deeper look in the mirror, and ask ourselves, ‘What is it that we truly value? How do we repair the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually take today, to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state, and neighborhood tomorrow?’ We cannot exhale once again, make excuses, and accept these tragic realities as the status quo.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Matthew McConaughey (@officiallymcconaughey) Though clearly distraught and … [Read more...] about Matthew McConaughey Says We ‘Must Do Better’ After School Shooting in His Texas Hometown

Selena Gomez Demands Politicians ‘Stop Giving Lip Service’ to Gun Control After Uvalde Shooting
Selena Gomez called on politicians to “stop giving lip service” to gun control and “actually change the laws” following the mass shooting in Uvalde , Texas Tuesday, May 24. Gomez, who was born and raised in Grand Prairie, Texas (outside Dallas), wrote on Twitter Tuesday night, “Today in my home state of Texas 18 innocent students were killed while simply trying to get an education. A teacher killed doing her job; an invaluable yet sadly under appreciated job. If children aren’t safe at school where are they safe?” (The death toll has since been updated to 19 students.) As part of her call to action, Gomez shared a link to the website for the nonprofit, Everytown for Gun Safety. She continued: “It’s so frustrating and I’m not sure what to say anymore. Those in power need to stop giving lip service and actually change the laws to prevent these shootings in the future.” It’s so frustrating and I’m not sure what to say anymore. Those in power need to stop giving lip service … [Read more...] about Selena Gomez Demands Politicians ‘Stop Giving Lip Service’ to Gun Control After Uvalde Shooting

Trump Didn’t Think Jan. 6 Rioters Hanging Mike Pence Was Such a Bad Idea: Report
Donald Trump reportedly enjoyed watching a mob of his supporters storm the Capitol last Jan. 6 . He also reportedly enjoyed that some of them were chanting for Vice President Mike Pence to be hung for failing to illegally stop the certification of the 2020 election results. He didn’t think it was such a bad idea, either, according to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows . The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Meadows told colleagues on Jan. 6 that Trump had said, as the Times puts it, “something to the effect of, maybe Mr. Pence should be hung.” Sources told the Times that Meadows’ recounting of Trump’s comment was relayed to the Jan. 6 committee by at least one witness, and that Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Meadows aide who was present at the time, confirmed it. Trump has previously defended the rioters who chanted for Pence to be hung. “Well, the people were very angry,” he told Jonathan Karl of ABC News, responding to the chants. “Because it’s common sense … [Read more...] about Trump Didn’t Think Jan. 6 Rioters Hanging Mike Pence Was Such a Bad Idea: Report
