‘Daisy Jones & The Six’: Fictional Band Led By Riley Keough & Sam Claflin Brought To Life In New Trailer Featuring Their Single

January 25, 2023 by deadline.com

Daisy Jones & The Six isn’t so fictional anymore. A trailer for the upcoming Prime Video series, based on the novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, brings the band to life led by Riley Keough as the titular character. In 1977, Daisy Jones & The Six were on top of the world. Fronted by two charismatic lead singers — Daisy Jones (Keough) and Billy Dunne ( Sam Claflin ) — the band had risen from obscurity to fame. And then, after a sold-out show at Chicago’s Soldier Field, they called it quits. Now, decades later, the band members finally agree to reveal the truth. This is the story of how an iconic band imploded at the height of its powers. The trailer released Wednesday features clips of the band performing and writing music together, also hinting at the rocky relationship between Daisy and Billy. The trailer also includes the band performing their hit single from the book, “Regret Me.” The song is part of the fictional album Aurora , which has also been brought … [Read more...] about ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’: Fictional Band Led By Riley Keough & Sam Claflin Brought To Life In New Trailer Featuring Their Single

From Perth to Hollywood: Why Cooper van Grootel is Australia’s hottest export

November 14, 2022 by au.rollingstone.com

Between his impressive acting chops and boyish good looks, Cooper’s journey and charming persona has all the makings of a young Heath Ledger – a charming young talent from Perth who’s been thrust into the glare of the Hollywood limelight. “I really look up to Heath Ledger, I think he’s an amazing actor and I can draw some parallels between our trajectories. He started off in Perth and moved to Sydney and did a couple of projects there and then went to LA and set it off there,” he said of the late The Dark Knight star. “I think it’s really important to show those sorts of stories where people start off in a small town with not too much hope, and they take the big leap. I also love what Jacob Elordi is doing. I think his work in Euphoria is absolutely incredible,” Cooper added. Credit: Peter Hayes Like Heath, Cooper is incredibly passionate and determined when it comes to his craft, a path he chose to follow at age 11 following a life-long passion for movies – … [Read more...] about From Perth to Hollywood: Why Cooper van Grootel is Australia’s hottest export

Laneway 2023: The Beths’ Guide to Auckland

January 25, 2023 by au.rollingstone.com

“I love Auckland. I like travelling and touring and being in other places for periods of time, but Auckland feels like home to me,” Liz Stokes, lead singer of The Beths, told Rolling Stone AU/NZ last year. Tāmaki Makaurau means a lot to the power-pop four-piece; despite regularly touring the world as one of New Zealand’s most successful exports of recent years, they still like to call only one place home. After a two-year hiatus, Laneway is about to make its long-awaited return to Auckland on Monday, January 30th. With that in mind, we could think of no better band to give us their knowledgable guide to the city than The Beths. You can find out about two of Liz’s bandmates, bassist Benjamin Sinclair and drummer Tristan Deck, favourite Auckland haunts below. Laneway 2023 hits Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth from January 30th-February 12th. You can still buy tickets and find out more information about the festival here . … [Read more...] about Laneway 2023: The Beths’ Guide to Auckland

Godard Is Gone: A Remembrance Of The Stubborn & Iconoclastic Film Director

January 20, 2023 by deadline.com

Stubborn and iconoclastic as always, Jean-Luc Godard has passed to another realm –and by his own choice–at age 91. Ever impudent and exasperating, forever pushing boundaries but remaining elusive, and an artist in every fiber of his being, Godard always did exactly what he wanted to do; for a few years many followed him ardently, and for lots of us in the 1960s he led the way into a vastly exciting and personal form of cinema. Thereafter he went entirely his own way, losing most of his audience but remaining at the forefront of exploring what cinema is, could be, and, sometimes, what it absolutely shouldn’t be. The official obituaries and tributes will certainly convey Godard’s importance and influence through the 1960s, the way he helped liberate cinema from its literary and orderly appearance to something far more energized, unexpected, jarring and often exhilarating. Although Godard consumed and brilliantly wrote about the existing cinema as a young critic, he … [Read more...] about Godard Is Gone: A Remembrance Of The Stubborn & Iconoclastic Film Director

Age-Defying Red Hot Chili Peppers and Post Malone Impress in Auckland

January 23, 2023 by au.rollingstone.com

As the sun set over Auckland on Saturday night, 40,000 revellers packed into Mt Smart Stadium to catch a glimpse of two of modern music’s most popular acts, and the night packed a punch that will be a lasting memory for those who made the most of it. Post Malone couldn’t have been a better fit to get the party started. Constantly joking with the crowd, he showcased an energy that matched the enthusiasm he has for his craft. Bouncing between his well-known hits, including “Stay”, “I Fall Apart”, “Rockstar” and “Circles”, he casually demanded attention, belting out his surprisingly deep lyrics with endearing ease. “Thank you guys so very f***ing much for hanging out with me tonight. This is so very fun. Cheers!” he exclaimed at one point, and everyone in the crowd had no reason not to believe him. As he punched through cigarettes while constantly being himself – this is a man renowned for his love of tobacco after all – he easily won the Auckland audience’s … [Read more...] about Age-Defying Red Hot Chili Peppers and Post Malone Impress in Auckland
