The Golden Globes could have been less glitz and glamour and more pajama party, given the stay-at-home Covid-19 factor this year. But in the spirit of keeping on, nominees leaned into the awards show spirit Sunday and dressed up for their video conference moments. Among the glammed-up stars are Angela Bassett in a deep purple Dolce & Gabbana gown; Josh O’Connor of The Crown in a look by LOEWE—a modern twist on a tux with a white silk scarf instead of a tie; and Sarah Hyland, wearing an off-shoulder Monique Lhuillier gown in scarlet, with Jimmy Choo shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Golden Globes Winners List – Updating Live

This strangest of awards season gets official tonight with the presenting of the 78th annual Golden Globes Awards , and Deadline will be updating the winners list live as trophies are handed out in 25 categories — 14 for motion pictures and 11 for TV. You can watch the livestream here . Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are back to host the virtual event, with Fey at the Rainbow Room in New York and Poehler at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles — the first time the event has gone bicoastal . It was “checkmate” for Anya Taylor-Joy at the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards as the Queen’s Gambit star secured her first career win on Sunday. During Sunday’s award’s ceremony, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Peaky Blinders and New Mutants actress took home the best actress in a limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television prize. In the Netflix series created by Scott Frank and Allan Scott, Taylor-Joy leads as the highly skilled, yet self-destructive chess prodigy Beth Harmon. Aaron Sorkin Channels Abbie Hoffman To Condemn U.S. Capitol Riot Upon Best Screenplay Win At Golden Globes

Aaron Sorkin added to his total Golden Globe win count as The Trial of the Chicago 7 director took home his third prize on Sunday. During the annual awards ceremony, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Sorkin took home the best screenplay prize. Sorkin’s legal drama centers a group of protesters accused of crossing state lines to cause a riot at the 1968 Chicago Democratic National Convention, and the subsequent trial in which they are tried as insurgents and instigators. The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Matteen II and Jeremy Strong Upon receiving the Golden Globe award from Cynthia Erivo, Sorkin celebrated fellow nominees Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell and Regina King for inspiring his daughter to pursue film. Tina Fey And Amy Poehler Open 2021 Golden Globes With Swipes At HFPA Lack Of Diversity

UPDATE, with video Tina Fey and Amy Poehler opened tonight’s Golden Globe Awards from opposite coasts, a Covid-era necessity that should probably earn the duo a battle pay bonus. T elling jokes to masked, scarcely populated live audiences, Fey and Poehler likely scored more sympathy than laughs. Fey, appearing from New York’s Rainbow Room in 30 Rock, and Poehler, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, entered the split-screen stage from either side, joining in the virtual middle and addressing the weird vibe almost immediately: As Fey reached toward Poehler, a disembodied arm appeared on Poehler’s half of the screen. “The technology is so great that you’ll never be able to tell the difference,” Poehler joked.
