EXCLUSIVE: Bria Samoné Henderson ( The Good Doctor ), Stakiah Lynn Washington ( Primo ), Tonya Pinkins ( Red Pill ), and Kim Estes ( Dexter ) have joined the cast of Angel City , the debut feature from filmmaker Noel Braham . Braham, who is also head of LA’s growing Micheaux Film Festival , penned the screenplay and will direct with Courtney L. Branch producing and Mario Contini set as director of photography. Sherri Martin, Dale Martin, Hadassah McGrew, and Michael Knapp serve as executive producers. Principal photography is set to begin in Los Angeles in April. Paramount+ has given a green light to a new chapter in the Star Trek universe. The streamer has handed a series order to Star Trek: Starfleet Academy , a project that we exclusively reported had been in development since last year, from Alex Kurtzman ’s Secret Hideout, Roddenberry Entertainment and CBS Studios. The series will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. HBO Max has greenlighted three drama series from J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot Prods. — Overlook , inspired by Stephen King’s The Shining ; Duster , conceived by Abrams; and a DC Justice League Dark show. These are Bad Robot’s first projects for HBO Max under the mega film and TV deal Abrams signed with WarnerMedia last fall. Like with the other uber producers on Warner Bros. This deal is all very nascent and at this point in time there aren’t any specific projects or characters that are being specifically developed out of the franchise. I understand that Bad Robot’s Head of Motion Pictures Hannah Minghella and Head of Television Ben Stephenson will soon be taking meetings with talent reps and their writing clients on which characters will get their own projects. EXCLUSIVE : Steve Small and Gwen Osborne have today announced the launch of Convergence Entertainment Group , their new film production and financing company based in Los Angeles. Convergence will operate as an independent studio, developing, financing and producing features for theatrical, broadcast and streaming markets. The company will utilize private equity funding to acquire top-level material and package projects with respected actors and filmmakers. Convergence plans to produce around half a dozen theatrical features per year for now, with hopes to expand its volume of production and financing as it continues to reach its growth objectives. “Convergence aims to create a filmmaker and talent-friendly studio where artists can create and finance projects that ultimately get distributed to outlets looking for high quality, innovative and unique original content,” Small told Deadline. Family sources tell TMZ ... 28-year-old Anna was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in January. She initially was complaining about stomachaches and a series of tests were conducted, which is when the cancer was discovered in her liver, kidney and lung. We're told she underwent her first round of chemotherapy last month, already losing hair as a result. Doctors are waiting to see how she reacts to the treatment before they make further decisions.
