Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson are joining Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr in the latter pair’s CBS family comedy. The untitled project, which picked up a pilot order in February , has also set Andy Ackerman as director and exec producer of the pilot. It centers on a legendary talk radio host and happily divorced “Poppa” (Wayans) who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband. Atkins plays Dr. Ivy Reed, an intelligent, savvy and bold, Ivy is the host of the “Ask Doctor Reed” radio show where she gives helpful advice to listeners with a modern approach on life. Ric de Azevedo , a King Family singer who later worked on the production teams of early 1980s series Private Benjamin and Enos but might best be remembered for a surprising, tearful moment during a Vietnam era Christmas special, died March 14 in Fruit Heights, Utah, of an undisclosed illness. He was 75. Ed Winter , the Deputy L.A. County Coroner who handled the death cases/investigations into some of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood has died ... TMZ has learned. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Winter passed away at his L.A. area home Friday of natural causes. Winter was right there in front of the cameras in cases that include Michael Jackson , Whitney Houston , Brittany Murphy , Paul Walker , Tom Petty and Corey Haim . Perhaps the most notable case involved Michael Jackson's death . Winter had immediate concerns when he saw a shocking number of injection points in Jackson's body. Grown-ish is coming to an end at Freeform . The series upcoming sixth season will be its last. Season 6 will air in two parts, with the first half premiering this summer. Season 6B will air in 2024. The series plans to welcome some big guest stars for the final season, including Lil Yachty, Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals. During Season 6, Grown-ish will also hit its 100th episodes. Freeform recently underwent a regime change , as Tara Duncan relinquished her duties to focus on Onyx Collective, and Simran Sethi took charge of the youth-skewing cable network in addition to her ABC duties.
