Before Legendary Entertainment Godzilla franchise scribe Max Borenstein became attached as showrunner to Winning Time : The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty series, it took co-creator Jim Hecht some years after optioning Jeff Pearlman’s 2014 book, S howtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s, to get HBO to sign on. And that’s because there hadn’t been a series quite like it before. Sure, there were sports dramas like Friday Night Lights; football always is an easy sell to a home or theatrical audience. But as far as detailing the rise of a notable NBA team, told against the shifting racial and gender politics of the 1980s era and featuring its gambler owner Dr. Jerry Buss (played by John C. Reilly) and underdog coaches, Winning Time was a TV show anomaly. “No one has taken a dynasty sports team and given it a treatment of an ongoing drama,” Borenstein tells Crew Call about creating Winning Time. The first season … [Read more...] about ‘Winning Time’ Co-Creator Max Borenstein On Creating “A Great American Novel” Show & Going Beyond Season 2 – Crew Call Podcast

How ‘Stranger Things’ Made Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ a Gen-Z Hit
Most of the top five of the Billboard Hot 100 looks pretty normal right now: Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Jack Harlow’s “First Class,” Future’s “Wait For U” (feat. Drake and Tems), Lizzo’s “About Damn Time.” But when you get to Number Five, you’ve entered the Upside Down — there’s Kate Bush ’s utterly perfect 1985 single “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” way higher than it ever got on the U.S. charts in its first run, during Ronald Reagan’s second term. And in her native U.K., “Running Up That Hill” has actually returned to Number One. It’s all, of course, due to the song becoming a key plot point in the new Stranger Things , where it literally saves the life of Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink, also the star of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” short film ). Your Favorite Artist Needs Touring Musicians. Jammcard is Supplying Them
For decades, if an artist needed a backing band in the studio or on the road, their main option was scouring through their contacts to find musicians to play with. Elmo Lovano wants to change that. Lovano, a longtime touring and session drummer himself who’s worked with artists such as Miley Cyrus and Skrillex, launched Jammcard in 2017, creating one of the most comprehensive databases of professional musicians for hire in the music industry . His goal: modernize how artists find musicians to play with. “I essentially set out to make what I wish we had when I was gigging most often,” Lovano says. “The only other option is to send out a mass text to 20 people and hope you find someone. Whether you’re an up-and-comer or someone working with Beyoncé, the whole creative side of our industry is word of mouth. There’s a better way to do this, and I want to make the global database of the whole live music industry that’s searchable and bookable to help musicians get more work.” … [Read more...] about Your Favorite Artist Needs Touring Musicians.
